The Republican expected to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee next year bluntly warned newly re-elected President Bush on Wednesday against putting forth Supreme Court nominees who would seek to overturn abortion rights or are otherwise too conservative to win confirmation.

"shove it spector! he's the only "republican" i DIDN'T vote for. i pulled one for the constitutional party. clymer is pro-life and more conservative than spector will ever be. (i guess it's a little late to be pointing this out to fellow pennsylvanian's now.)"
I voted the exact same way! Ever since Specter "borked" Judge Bork years ago, his ultra-liberal colors have made me puke. I said to my husband, "No more!" I knew Specter would pull this kind of stunt "warning the President" about Supreme Court nomineees. Let's see if the Pubbie Senate leaders will grow a backbone now.
Frist...my homeboy...ain't up to it.
That's what makes us Freepers. We won't let Mr. Specter go unchallanged. I don't think it is time to fight that but soon.
"Hello Senator Frist. I am a Republican from California and am excited about supporting you in your bid for the Presidency in 2008, if you choose to run. However, I am very concerned by the possibility that Senator Specter may soon be chosen to chair the Judiciary Committee. Just today he put out a statement saying how he would apply a litmus test to all of the President's appointees and would refuse to let pro-life judges through. He was also responsible for printing and distributing 'Kerry&Specter for Working Families' yard signs in Pennsylvania. By all signs, he is a RINO (Republican In Name Only).
As Majority Leader, you have the power to stop this man from single-handedly halting the President's judicial agenda. All conservatives will be very grateful to you if you could do something about this. Thank you."

I live in PA> We tried to replace this A$$, but he squeaked by. Time to get this SOB straightened out. He is there to represent the People and how the people want him to act in our stead. We in PA must e-mail him, call him and not let him chair this committee!! We may as well put a Dumbocrat into office
Though he refused to describe the political leanings of the high court, Specter said he "would characterize myself as moderate; I'm in the political swim. I would look for justices who would interpret the Constitution, as Cardozo has said, reflecting the values of the people."
It is very apparent that this former law-man doesn't even support the rule of law if he thinks our Constitution should change based on public opinion or "values", instead of vice versa.
No question he should be denied the chairmanship of the Judiciary committee.
Why couldn't he have lost the primary? The day after the election, he turns into Insta-Jerk. Geez!
Bush and Rove thought they could take PA by getting Spector elected. Looks like he is up to his old tricks of stabbing us conservatives in the back. Someone needs to tell Spector to shut the hell up - he's not running the show. How do we get some traction on this!!
Spector defended Clarence Thomas during that Anita Hill fiasco - and I can't help liking him for that. Sorry.
This turkey's state - Pennsylvania - voted for KERRY. Bush doesn't owe Specter or his liberal constituents any bowing or scraping. It was conservative states that re-elected Bush. Let's hope Bush shows he understands that.
The idea that the Senate Judiciary Committee would be chaired by someone who would make decisions based on Scottish law, rather than the laws of OUR nation, is abhorrent.
Little Lara has quite a knack for spitting out articles that get Pennsylvania Republicans into trouble. I'm not saying Specter's not a RINO, but you can be sure that Lara crafted her story in order to portray Specter in the most controversial light possible.
I voted exactly as you did. Specter is the only "R" I couldn't/wouldn't vote for.
You cannot stop him. That is why we Pennsylvanians tried to get rid of this fake Republican in the primary. Specter seems to be a lot more frail these days. Possibly due to the campaign stress this year. We have been trying to get rid of this liberal. The female ex GOPer that flipped to go after Santorum has high name recognition as she was Pa Treasurer for years. Barbra Hafer will make us all miserable. I am sure Santorum knows this. Specter will give GW Bush a real arse pain. GW Bush will have to play hardball with Specter
like senators McCain-Jeffords- Snowe- Collins- Chaffee. - tom
Except for sitting to actually hear cases if prohibited for health reasons, according to analysis I have read and heard discussed, Rehnquist can still vote from anywhere (which includes home, a hospital bed etc).
If there should come a time where his mental faculties prohibited his participation, then there would be a 4-4 split. But until that time, a split is not possible.
Well said. He will say anything to get elected.
I keep hearing this both ways. If he is not with us then he has got to go.
Nevertheless, even though it was unheard of for alleged murderers awaiting trial to be granted a release on bail, Ira Einhorn was granted bail. His attorney, former district attorney and soon-to-be U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, had engineered a miracle. Says Lopez, "Bail was set at a staggeringly low $40,000, only $4,000 of it needed to walk free
