Battle Hymn of the Republic
http://www.law.ou.edu/hist/bathymn.html ^ | Sometime in the 1860s | Julia Ward Howe

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,

He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword

His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps

They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps

I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps

His day is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish`d rows of steel,

"As ye deal with my contemners, So with you my grace shall deal;"

Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel

Since God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat

He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat

Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!

Our God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,

With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:

As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,

While God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

Allow me to re-post this: GOD BLESS AMERICA sung preferably by Kate Smith

"God bless America, land that I love. Stand beside her and guide her. Through the night with the light from above. From the mountains to the prairies. To the oceans white with foam. God bless America, my home sweet home. From the mountains to the prairies .To the oceans white with foam.God bless America, my home sweet home. God bless America, my home sweet home"

How many here recall the singing of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in the National Cathedral at the end of our national prayer service on September 14, 2001, as the 4 US military service representatives filed out carrying their battle streamers? I still can hear it, still can see it, it brought me to weeping, but it also steeled me. How many kerry-voting democrats remember that? Not many, I'll guess.

Technically "Dixie" would be more correct. Battle Hymn of the Republic is a Yankee song and lets face it. JFnK is a filthy stinking Yankee! And it is largely us here in the south that defeated the Yankee blue belly Frenchman.

The song is about the Union being saved. The north saved it in the 19th century. The south took care of business last night.

It's an appropriate hymn to celebrate a great night and a lot of hard work by Freepers.

I also enjoyed Ronan Tynan's version during Ronald Reagan's funeral.

Beautiful and appropriate! I'm so relieved we didn't let the troops down.

Honestly you could play fart bubbles in the bathtub for all I care. I am just so happy about the outcome of this election it really does not matter.

Still there are a few of us in the south that do not think too highly of that particular song because of its past use. But that is water under the bridge.

You ought to tell that to the University of Georgia. Every time their football team scores a TD, they play the refrain.
