Ed Bradley Calls Election for Bush on CBS, Rather Objects In a rather testy on-air exchange, circa 12:30am PST, between Dan Rather, CBS anchor, and Ed Bradley, long-time corresponent for CBS's 60 Minutes and an election night commentator, Bradley rather roundly criticized both Kerry and his own network for not accepting the obvious mathematics and calling the election for Bush.
Bradley pointed out that Bush leads Kerry by 145,000 votes in Ohio, and even if 250,000 provisional ballots remain (which he considered a high estimate), and that even if all the provisional ballots are valid, Kerry would need 79% of them in order to tie. A result Bradley considered impossible. Rather's reply was basically that "it was the position of CBS News to not call the race." Rather made no attempt to refute Bradley on the facts, except to state and restate that this is what CBS was going to do.
I'd love to see the transcript of the exchange. I do wonder how much Rather's trashing of 60 Minute's reputation had to do with Bradley's willingness to challenge Rather and CBS on the air.
BTW, does anyone know how that Rathergate investigation is going?
Bradley has had a little more class/honesty than Blather ever had.
That's the deciding factor -- if Katie wears black, it signals our victory!!!
I flipped to cBS at about 2:30 est, and Rather was doing everything he could think of to find a way for Kerry to get enough electoral votes to win; he just couldn't bring himself to call Ohio in Bush's favor. It was actually comical. At the time, Fox had projected a Bush win in Ohio, and their projected electoral votes for Bush were about 30 higher than what cBS had projected.
Bradley is one of the few decent ones left at CBS.
To be fair, Blather has consistently followed his left-wing agenda. This fits in perfectly with his MO.
That's how I saw it, too. It was interesting to see him as the voice of reason, while Dan frantically tried to think up new hokey colloquialisms to deny the inevitable. By the way, anyone else think Bradley looks kind of gaunt?
Speaking of media bias, how about Peter Jennings' many snippy interruptions of every Republican he interviewed and the piece de resistance, his interview with the Al Jazeerah reporter who as much as said Al Qaeda was pulling for a Kerry victor, and Pete completely fluffed over the comment.
Well then it's a cinch you weren't here in north Texas, where the Fox affiliate had a bitter, failed former Dimocrat on as a "political commentator," one Ron Kirk by name, who didn't even try to conceal his venom, didn't try to pretend to be non-partisan, and I tuned them out Rather early!
Re Rathergate investigation: With W's re-election, I hope it is pursued to the fullest-screw the CBS self investigation and its results, let the DOJ do it and see what comes out.
I predict CBS won't call the election even after Kerry concedes.
flipping through the channels it was like there were 2 entirely different elections going on. Rather looked like he needed to go outside and have a Dean scream.......Too funny. He's so over.
That's a joke, right?
Do you seriously think See-B.S. is going to investigate The Dan?
Rather saying "I control CBS News and its decisions". "Its not over until I say its over"
Hey Dan---Its over, the election AND your career.
Exactly right! If the 'rats drag this out in Ohio, the Republicans need to press for recounts in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and any other close state.
The media is already painting this as being down to Ohio.
We made a mistake in not pursuing recounts in New Mexico, Wisconsin, and other close states in 2000.
Never again!!! We need to expose 'rat dirty tricks.
"His back is to the wall, his shirt-tail is on fire, and the bill collector is at the door."
BWAHAHAHAHAHA
Good ol' Dan Rather has just given us the PERFECT pithy obituary for the entire LEFT WING MainStream Media !!!!!
WEARING BLACK
So far I have
Katie Couric
Matt Lauer
Andrea Mitchell
Please feel free to add to this list as the MSM Morons make their graveyard appearances today...
I remember early last night so many people here was saying not to watch Fox and to turn to cbs...that he was doing a good job, so I did for awhile and he was early on, he was funny, fair and balance, even oddly seemed favorable to President Bush. But at 1:00am the meltdown started, and I figured out what he was up to...it was the exit polls, he felt like he knew kerry was going to win, so why not put on a charade. When Ohio went to Bush, it was priceless.
I wanted comedy so I watched Dan
I know it was late and I was a little drunk but did anyone else hear Dan talking about "frogs with sidepockets" or was that a dream I had?
I was flipping through channels and rather was hanging on to the hope that kerry would get the poker hand to beat bush. It was sickening. How can CBS even keep this guy on the air is beyond me.
The 3 stooges.
