We are the country that had the guts and fortitude to outlast the Soviet Union in a fifty odd year conflict that desided the fate of the world. We are not Spain. I'm here and it was that coupled with the immediate implied ETA connection. I think if Aznar had responded more like Bush, with cojones and will, he would have won easily. In the end, it was Aznar's government infrastructure which caught and/or killed them.

In fact, President Bush is the first incumbent president since President Reagan in 1984 to receive over 50% of the popular vote! It's a mandate that President Clinton did not have in 1996, and it is not the utter rejection the President Carter received in 1980.

I feel sorry for the Spanish. They're going to have to admit to themselves that they are a nation of wimpy girly-men.They're the only Coalition country that caved to terrorism. And now they're stuck with a socialist prime minister after Aznar had done such a good job restoring their economy.
