The Missing Young Vote

I was listening to a Democratic talking head dissing the young vote who seemed to stay home, as they were really counting on the MTV generation. You know, maybe they realized that the Democratic party has stalled off good ideas by President Bush for their future, like social security, etc, etc, etc. Maybe deep down they realized these rockers, like Bon Jovi got their millions locked up along with Kerry's Billion. How about their future. So you see, don't underestimate the youth vote. Republicans here your chance to open the gates and show them a bright new future with the right choices.

My son and my GF's two daughters voted for the first time and proudly declared their support for President Bush.
They saw through the Kerry facade.

The youth were out. But everyone else was too, so their percentage stayed the same as 2000. And there's no reason to assume the youth was gung-ho for Kerry.

I remember reading articles and polls on "9/11 conservatives" that has 18-30 year olds (which coincidentially is also my generation) support Bush at 58-42.

I'm an election judge and in our little polling place (481 registered voters) the increase in young voters was really noticeable. Just an occasional glance at the polling book tells me a good number of them did not register with a party.

Maybe they took in free concerts for their registration but they didn't want to wait in line for 3 hours to vote.

I believe the young people did come out. They voted for President Bush. It is impossible for the elitist media and DNC to comprehend this, but the young people are different from their generation of the hippie radicals of the 60''s -70's. They are people who watched before their eyes 3000 people murdered. They saw their homeland attacked and for three years have watched terrorists cut off heads, car bomb innocent people, kill over 400 Russian children. They are much more patriotic than the hardened liberals in their 30's and 40's.

The youth today are more like the youth of WWII. This is how they are defending their country. They voted today for George Bush. The media better wake up, because there is a generation on their heels that sees the old media with a disdainful eye. They glean their news from the internet and most I know love Hannity and Laura Ingram. Yes, pundits, they have cell phones too.

I was driving through downtown today in Oregon and came upon a crowd of about 30 young people shouting and yelling on the street corner. As I pulled up, I saw they were all carrying Bush signs and waving. I rolled down my window and waved to them and they were yelling back to me and all the other cars, "We're not old enough to vote. Please vote for George Bush for us!" After all the tension and pressure about the election hearing them shout for my vote, I just sat at the stop light and cried. As I started driving across the street in front of the Democratic Headquarters were 2 women holding a Kerry sign looking very humiliated. I came home and told my 23 year old daughter, and she told me all week she has seen crowds of them at the same corner. They come from the nearby public highschool after school and cheer for President Bush. Here is the hope and future of America...The media is just too blind and deaf to see or hear them shouting.

What the Dems haven't figured out is the kids went to their concerts for the music not the politics. Perhaps the kids are smarter then the Dems.

Some that I know were turned off by the “Rock the Vote” Kerry campaign on MTV as well as the celebrity stars begging for their support of Hanoi John.
Even the under thirty crowd can have their intelligence offended.

Same with my 20 YO daughter, an Arizona State (Honors College) student. We even got her boyfriend, also a 1st-timer, to vote for W!

Good for all of you. Now I hope that we can come together and work out these problems to help our younger generation.

I've been badgering politicians to let me put some of my extorted Social Security money into a private savings account ever since I was about 20. I'm now 47, probably too late to do me any good, and I'm still hearing Democrats lying to young people and trying to block this idea. It's so @&*#! frustrating! I wish I could grab all these young doofuses by the nose ring and wise them up.

I'd also like to do the same thing to black voters, who keep sending Democrats back to Washington to protect their sacred Social Security system. I'd just like to point out to them that the average black man dies at around 64, and all the money he's poured in over the years goes to support the longest-lived demographic: old white women. None of the money goes to his own family, which it would if it were a private account. Still think Social Security is a good deal? If so, I've got a 1993 Saturn I'd like to sell you.

My fiance (30) voted for the first time this election for GWB! Since he was a bachelor and in delayed childhood for many years, as are many of his friends, I have had some insight into this mindset. Those that distrust Republicans are just as likely to distrust most politicians, and therefore just don't vote. They are a cynical bunch. However, we have seen a trend with some of the younger guys he knows to be pretty politically aware and conservative- and they voted!
