Off the Cliff

Off the Cliff

At about 1:40am Eastern Time November 3, 20004 Carl Cameron of Fox News reported that Senator Ted Kennedy had made his way over to the Kerry Mansion near Beacon Hill in Boston. Fox news had projected President Bush the winner of the state of Ohio with a spread of about 125,000 votes and 97% of the precincts reporting. New Mexico, Iowa and Nevada were trending strongly toward Bush at that time.

The Pundits on the panel openly speculated about a Kerry concession coming hard on the heels of the Senior Senator’s arrival at the Kerry home. With Ohio, President Bush had garnered 269 of the needed 270 electoral votes needed to win the election and if Kerry were to get all of the remaining votes this would still only throw the vote into the US House of Representatives where the Republicans had just picked up an additional three seats. Bush wins.

Instead, the Massachusetts dynamic duo sent the Boy Wonder – John Edwards – out to announce to the rain drenched faithful that the Kerry Edwards bunch would reprise Sore/Loserman 2000.

If there were ever a moment that proved the Kerry/Edwards ticket was not up to the challenge of being Presidential and the leaders of the Free World this was it. If there are any honest democrats left (and it is getting harder and harder to tell if that is the case) this step has to have them shaking their heads in disbelief – if not outright disgust. Can you imagine Harry Truman or FDR sending a boyish fop out to tell the American electorate that they will have to wait another day? This is what Kerry/Kennedy/Edwards considers to be leadership.

The math is wrong for them. This is not Florida 2000. There simply aren’t enough legal votes in Ohio – provisional or otherwise - to make up the mathematical difference. Instead, ego is what is at stake. Kennedy the kingmaker had shoved his brand of Camelot down the Party’s throat and Kerry (always the Kennedy protégé) was anointed the nominee.

There have to be loyal democrats out there in bong filled rooms wondering how exactly it is that with all of Bush’s problems; the war in Iraq, not finding Osama Bin Laden, $50/barrel oil, the rise of the deficit and the growing national debt that Kerry was not gaining traction in the election. In spite of their nominee gaining acclaimed victories in the debates and in spite of the media’s vow to deliver 5 – 15% of the vote to Kerry he was sinking and staying within the margin of error from the moment of Democrat Zell Miller’s speech nominating President Bush at the Republican National Convention.

If you’re a loyal democrat and you’re wondering why is it your party has alienated it’s Catholic base, destroyed it’s dedicated Mid-west following of FDR farm democrats and demonstrated the only shock and awe warfare it is capable of is in devastating the anti-war Howard Dean faction of the party so that John Kerry the war hero could be the nominee you need look no further than to the bulbous nose of the wannabe king driving the Democratic party Oldsmobile off the bridge once again.

Post election analysis and evaluations by the soon to be re-emerging “Democratic Leadership Council” faction of the DNC will point to the obvious negatives that a Kerry campaign entailed. Grey Davis told CNS News, "We owe it to the people that we represent to reassess and try and fix what went wrong and come back with a winning coalition and strategy four years from now and try to figure out a way to win the country back.” The liberal voters of Massachusetts who failed to hold their leader accountable for driving off the bridge at Chappaquidick allowed Kennedy to push Kerry as the junior Senator there for 20 years. The voters never fully vetted Kerry as a candidate because Teddy’s endorsement and political machine prevented such a process. These voters are epitomized by this one quoted by CNS News on election night, “Another man shouted to the Republicans "This is why the rest of the world calls us ignorant Americans. You obviously don't read the newspapers or you would not believe as you do."

The Swift Boat Veteran’s for Truth thought it all fine and dandy that Kerry represent Taxachusetts, but when he wanted to be President of the United States and Commander in Chief during wartime they held their fire until he was the party nominee and then let fly with a blistering attack that is all the more remarkable for its success because the mainstream media largely failed to report it. After the media and the Kerry campaign had ignored the assault by John O’Neill and 250 of Kerry’s fellow Vietnam-era sailors the rest of the nation immediately saw what Kennedy had prevented the voters of Massachusetts from thinking. From then on Kerry was sunk and he and his cadre of yes-metrosexuals could never quite grasp what the red state denizens were so upset about. After all they had ALL protested the Vietnam War – “What’s the big deal?” they seemed to ask each other and the reporters who protected them.

As the car heads off the cliff the question that remains is will the Democratic Party right itself to once again contend in the Presidential arena or will it head the way of the Whigs? Whichever way it goes my bet is that it will be Hillary doing the driving while Ted and John John cry in their lecture series alongside Al Gore.

As a matter of fact, you can be of great assistance. I spent my time away writing. I'm finishing it up, and could use some help. I'll FRepmail you in the next day or so.

We patriots were just delivered a very rare opportunity. I'm the most optimistic I've been in a long time.
