["By running candidates who favor smaller government?"]

In case you failed to read the LP's own press release,

Oh, I read it. And unlike you, I understood it.

they were running candidates that they had no intention of winning...but only to act as spoilers to throw the race to the liberals.

That's a short-term goal. You seem incapable of understanding how this can be a viable sacrifice in order to achieve a long-term goal. Again, how about a nice game of chess, fifty bucks a game?

That doesn't sound like people who REALLY care a bit about smaller government.

See above.

For all your vicious attacks on libertarian candidates, the irony is that the "vermin" you despise can run rings around you when it comes to understanding political strategy. The further irony is that you'll probably never realize it even when it's been spelled out for you.

"I imagine they'd vote for Democrats if they wanted them to win."

You don't understand the LP mindset. As one of them said already, sometimes you have to teach the GOP a lesson. They don't seem to understand that when they help elect liberal Democrats everyone suffers...even them. They just aren't aware of it.

I understand it very well, and the public understands it very well. You can spin it all you want and it won't change a thing.

Well yes, it's like the old fashioned parental admonition before the spanking, "this hurts me more than it hurts you." BUT, the end result is an improvement in the situation.

You have to remember, the LP isn't about electing anyone...it's about playing spoiler. It says a lot when that is your political goal.

You know, I'm starting to think you just may not be capable of understanding the point. Is this one of those deals where we're just wasting time annoying the pig?

Typical LP thinking. Higher taxes, loosing the war on terror, liberals courts...they hurt everyone equally. At least those cognizant enough to understand that simple fact.

First of all, if you say "state" or "statist" one more time, there will be nobody left on this board who does not think you are a crank.

Second, anyone voting for an LP candidate is either a malcontent looking for any third party vote or an unappeasable who will manufacture any reason to avoid voting Republican. I like my tagline.

If these voters will "go" to the LP for no specific reason, every rational political consultant will say "screw 'em" and go after a richer class of votes. And then you'll get an even more leftist state.

But why actually think about it? It's not the Libertarian way.

Clout. Now both major parties are going to go out of their way to court the smaller-government voters, so this sort of thing is less likely to happen next time.

ROTFLMAO.

That's a good one.

The results of this will be the Dem will say "I've got a mandate to raise your taxes and take away your freedoms. Oh, but I'll go easy on the potheads. Thanks Libertarian Party!"

Yes, those who can create, those who can't try to destroy. That's the LP campaign strategy...like a spoiled child.

It's certainly looking that way, isn't it?

Some people can't seem to grasp something as straightforward (but apparently too complicated for them) of sacrificing in the short term in order to achieve a long-term goal. Thus my comment about wanting to play him in chess for money -- sacrificing pieces in order to enhance your position on the board, in order to gain a larger prize later, is a key strategy in chess. It is also exactly what the libertarian party's strategy is here, but that flies *right* over some folks' heads.

And what did you get? What have you ever gotten? But don't think about it. Please, wallow in delusions.

The fact is that the power that the Governor of WA holds is real power. Power that will be used to expand government. Power that will be used to increase the narcotic qualities of the welfare state.
