The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

Hi MamaD, nice to see you back at TM. I've been absent for a few days as well. Hope you had a good early Thanksgiving with your children.

Interesting new item I saw at Home Depot today. Very large, prominent display of Red Cross emergency kits for two people, for three days. Includes everything from power bars to N95 masks. $79.99. The boxes said it was designed for any emergency such as wildfires, tornado's, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.

I guess a terrorist attack would come under the "etc." part.

OBL is an Islamic cleric if enough Muslims think he is. The only standard for authority in Koranic interpretation (which is all Muslim clerics really do, there being no sacredotal role in Islam) is how many Muslims regard your interpretation as authoritative.

His choice of Afghanistan as a base (rather than any other failed state, like Somalia or the Sudan) was an attempt to hook into some Mahdi prophecies, which refer to that region by some archaic Arabic name as the place where the Mahdi will arise.

Of course the jihadis have been considering him to be the Caliph for a while (which doesn't win friends or influence people in Iran or most of Iraq, since the Shi'ites regard the Caliphs as illegitimate usurpers).

I sure hope you are being facetious! My husband's business partner went to China about 10 years ago, on business. Had to eat what was served at some obligatory dinner and was afraid to ask what it was he was eating. He got deathly ill and will have to take medication the rest of his life. Lost his pilot's license as well due to the headaches. No on the monkey brains no matter what the circumstances!

I'm afraid she's not. I have a friend who was also obliged to eat what was served at a high-level dinner. It wasn't just monkey brains: the monkey was alive and restrained when they cut the top of its head off and served it. Truly abysmal that such practices persist for the sake of ceremony or whatever passes for decorum. Stun it, bleed it, cut it and broil it. Then I'll eat it.

His friends in the intel community are saying that the garb UBL was wearing on the video is particular to the local dress in Mashad in NE Iran (near Afghan border). It was a signal that they are working hand in glove.

Israel says submarine infiltrated its coastal waters

JERUSALEM (AP) — A foreign submarine slipped into Israeli waters last week, cruising the coastline near Lebanon before being detected and departing, Israeli authorities said Monday.

The vessel belonged to a NATO member country and was detected during the night between Nov. 9-10, an Israeli military official told The Associated Press while speaking on condition of anonymity.

Israeli defenses spotted the vessel just inside Israeli territorial waters about 12 miles off the northern coast, the army official said.

Israeli Army Radio said the sub was in the area of Nahariya, a northern Israeli coastal town near the border with Lebanon. The official army statement gave no details of the precise time or location of the incident.

“The navy spotted and tracked last week an underwater target which was identified as a submarine,” a military spokeswoman said. “After it was spotted and tracked, the submarine left.”

On Nov. 7, a pilotless drone aircraft flew from Lebanon into Israel north of Nahariya and filmed reconnaissance pictures for 20 minutes before flying back across the border, according to the militant Shiite Islamic group Hezbollah, which said it sent the drone.

Israeli military officials said at the time that Hezbollah got the drone from Iran, its major patron, and an enemy of Israel.

Miniter was very specific this morning that this robe is from a certain area of Iran. As Callmejoe pointed out it's from the Mashad area of Iran.

Are we seeing an increase in small plane crashes, or an increase in the reporting of crashes? Also, how many more small planes are in the air compared to, say, 5 years ago?

I don't know if there's an increase in small plane crashes compared to previous years. I've tried checking the FAA site and can't find a comparison. To me it 'seems' like an increase, but I'm on heightened alert...and I see terrorism everywhere. LOL
