The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

I drive an unmarked white utility van. I got a lot of strange looks when the DC sniper was on the loose, because they pretty much flashed a picture of my van on the TV the day I was scheduled to drive through Richmond VA.

No, I don't mean mention of something happening Tuesday. I just meant for some reason Tuesday might be significant because I think I read something like perhaps it is an important date to them or we are having something on Tuesday. It is like I can remember something but can't remember what it is so perhaps I am just coming up with Tuesday from my own head. Not sure. Please no alert because my posting are all based on my perceptions etc. I apologize for any confusion.

Man runs vehicle into library to try to be deported

An Egyptian national, described by police as mentally ill, rammed his car this evening into the downtown Houston Public Library, 500 McKinney.

The man, Amin Hamby, 33, told Houston police officers he had lapsed on his medication. Hamby was arrested and authorities are filing state criminal mischief charges against him, said Sgt. Michelle Sandoval, a Houston Police Department spokesman. Hamby will ultimately be turned over to immigration authorities for deportation, she added.

Library crewmen this evening were cleaning up broken glass, but no other damage was apparent. There were no injuries reported.

I noticed that. What's been up there lately? (I haven't had time to follow TM or visit SI over the past few days.)

I just had a thought about the three lamps east, two lamps west timing element in the reply to the Tip of the EarthX And She bled post: could it be from the end of Ramadan? They surely knew security would be up everywhere on all the candidate nights for the Night of Al-Qadr. Might they be waiting until it relaxes?

When I did pop into SI it looked to be mostly end-of-Ramadan devotional postings. But I see someone else on TM talking about increased chatter the last few days. Anything tie in to what we'd been thinking? Or is it all about Iraq?

Perhaps. I notice we all seem to get on when it's in the air. Usually it is just those that dig up significant physical info but then as the untangibles pick up the board gets very busy. Hmmm.

I think part of it is that everyone is revved up by all the talk of nukes possibly coming over the border. I am rather inclined to think that someone is floating a trial balloon and then letting all of the experts talk about it on TV to give them ideas on how to pull it off. I heard several speculative discussions on the air today concerning areas where secuity was light, possible ways to build a low-yield bomb from minimal components so it could do the most damage, and other things that, were I a scum-sucking jihadist bent on doing damage, I would have found ve-e-e-ery helpful.

I don't think so. We have been talking about the nukes for at least a year. This all old news to TM.

I agree that there seems to be a lot of tension in the air, and it might be because we have been expecting something for a week now, and nothing has happened. For my own part, I feel relief that my worst fears have not been realized, but it also makes me wonder what we missed, and what may still be out there.

I wish someone could remember what provoked the queries about Tuesday: three lamps east and two lamps west from the end of Ramadan (beginning of the day of Eid al-Futr) will be Tuesday in North America.

Still, I suppose the fatwa on nukes and the offensive in Fallujah might be enough to explain extra chatter even if nothing operational was acutally afoot.
