GOP Complains About School Voting Over Alleged Ice Cream Bribe

School Administrator Denies Any Wrongdoing

POSTED: 10:41 am CST November 2, 2004 UPDATED: 11:58 am CST November 2, 2004

LUFKIN, Texas -- Lufkin-area Republicans are complaining about voting by residents from the local state school for the mentally disabled.

The Lufkin Daily News reports the Angelina County GOP headquarters was told that Lufkin State School employees bribed students with ice cream. They also alleged improper use of a state van to take students to the poll for early voting.

County Republican Chairman Dale Ingle alleges the school was trying to boost Democratic efforts to fight the possible closing of the school.

But school administrator Randy Spence denies any wrongdoing. He says being a state school resident doesn't bar the resident from voting. The federally funded organization Advocacy Incorporated says Texans lose the right to vote only if a judge declares them mentally incompetent.

Spence says nearly 30 school residents are registered to vote, but only six had been to early voting. He says five others signed up to vote during regular voting today.

"state school for the mentally disabled"

I'm sorry, they're allowed to vote?

Did the School admins also pull the lever for them?

Of course, they may be easily SWAYED in WHO they vote for with a bribe of ice cream (the substance of which is NOT addressed in this article).

This not a surprise for Lufkin. I wonder if they also gave their Chupacabras a ride to the polls. Being pretty weird their's little doubt they would vote Democratic.

"Texans lose the right to vote only if a judge declares them mentally incompetent."

Well, unfortunately, sounds like a loophole. (as absurd as it is)

They should be arrested for "soliciting prostitution", since anyone who would sell out their vote for a bribe is a whore.

The Dems must be running low on money. Ice cream is cheaper than the usual cigarettes and crack rocks.

IF THEY GAVE THEM ICE CREAM, they BRIBED them! Never mind about the votes, get them on the bribery, which is a federal offense.

I'm not sure if it is a FEDERAL offense but it IS a state felony here in Texas.

Aw, Michael Moore found some real stupid students in college no less and bought their votes with 13cents worth of Ramen Noodles.

Got to love the people who will work to keep their government gravy train running even if it means exploiting the mentally-impaired.

No relative of mine would stay in that place another minute.

Have you ever tried to separate Moore from any food? I would rather wrestle away a fresh antelope from a pride of lions. He was making the supreme sacrifice for his (despicable) cause.

I'm reminded of the scene in Deathrace 2000 where a hospital puts the invalids out in the highway for "Euthanasia Day" to help the score of the "favored" contestant Frankenstein (actually a mythological racer genetically engineered; not a repeat contestant).

The driver diverts off the road and kills the doctors/nurses instead. This surprises the Walter Cronkite like anchor.

It is scary what America HAS become in the 21 years since that film was made.

This is a reconstruction era tactic used by Southern Dims. to perpetuate the status quo. They still have the cemeteries to assist in their voting. That doesn't take any bribes. Every election the dead of Beria Cemetery arise to go vote.
