No one saw fit to give us our own thread, despite there being a number of crucial issues on our ballot this year.

Smith Station has about 600 people standing in line right now, according to my husband who is standing in that line.

I was about #80 at my polling place in north Tuscaloosa county at 8:30. Poll workers were saying that is close to the most that have ever voted there in one day. No doubt about this area going for Bush, and it looks the word was out on amendment 2.

Shelby County - traffic jams at polling sites before 7a.m. Police had to block hwy 280 to allow pedestrians to cross to a polling site. People standing 200 deep in the pouring rain. I run campaigns for a living. I have never seen anything like this. If this intensity is the same for Bush around the country, it is going to be huge for Bush. We need some intel on the traditionaly Democrat boxes and counties.

One other thing - Prominently displayed was a sign: Attention voters, please have ID ready, in Alabama, It's The Law.

Yes, on the way into work this morning I heard the DJ say more than once, that you MUST bring your ID with you to your correct precinct.

My husband is still in line 2 hours now -- I won't be able to go vote until after work, at this rate, I may not get to vote at all because the doors will close before I get to the door!

Does anyone know what they do when there are still people standing in line because of overwhelming turnout and it's past the time the polls are suppose to close?

I just finished putting a daughter through her BS at Auburn and a son through his MBA at Auburn. They were one year apart so the was 2 of them for 3 straight years. Neither even got a student loan. My ex wife and I paid for the whole thing. Son just finished in Aug 2004. I feel like my income has doubled. I'd move before I'd pay someone else's tuition.

How the heck did something so dumb end up on the Alabama ballot? I'm paying out the nose for my son's education, and I'm considered too rich to get any financial help. Not that I expect it.

They cut the line off when the polls close. Then, anyone who is in line will still be allowed to vote. You have to be in line before 7:00pm.

I'm out of NE Jefferson County in the burbs, huge turnout. There was a black couple behind me in line they asked who I was voting for and what did I think of the ammendments. I said you first. They claimed for Bush and NO on the ammendments. I said me too. The area is middle class 70-30 white to black. Most of the blacks I know who are middle class know that Je$$e Jackson and the DNC are not their friends. The husband was a Desert Storm Vet.
