I don't understand the assumption that Leftists are anti-military considering they have imposed military dictatorships wherever they have come to power, and increased military spending to boot (in order to "liberate" others). American Leftists may be different here, but they've been opposed to American patriotism so long that they probably couldn't bring themselves to advocate even patriotism for the "socialist motherland" (and btw, the Communists in other countries always refer to themselves as "patriots"). But you know, there are American rightwingers who admire certain foreign dictators while considering John Ashcroft to be a "jackbooted thug." Funny how certain segments of the right are as opposed to a strong American military as they are supportive of the strong militaries of foreign dictatorships.
Nothing to worry about if they are as adept with guns as they are with pies.

Same point. Castro rode into power on a tank and I'm assuming the "great October socialist revolution" was achieved at least in part by firearms. There were Communist street toughs before there were Fascist or Nazi street toughs and if they had an aversion to firearms I don't know about it. But again, maybe American leftists are different here. Does this mean if an American Castro rode into Washington DC on a tank the American left would reject him for anti-militarist reasons???
Let me 'splain it to you. The US military, as opposed to that in banana republics, is comprised of individuals who are more religious, patriotic and independent than the country as a whole. Jacksonian Americans are dominant in the US military. Clinton tried to change that, but he could not in only 8 years.
Leftists are against the US military so long as it is not controlled by them, in terms of its culture, values and willingness to do the left's bidding. If they ever took power, they would not use the US military as their own, they would defeat the US military, as Lenin defeated Czarist forces, and then create their own, People's Army.
That could never happen here, of course, because unlike Cuba, France and China, the free people here possess their own guns. That's the whole point of the 2nd amendment. That doesn't mean that leftists won't go underground someday and commit violent acts. Leftists gave the Soviets the bomb, after all. They are capable of great damage to this country, and great hatred of it.
