I live in a swing state, registered two months ago, and recieved my registration card one month ago.
Just this Friday I received a second registration card made out to the lady I bought my house from three years ago. I'd never gotten one in other elections. This lady is a teacher, by the by, who moved several towns away, out of county, even, I think.
I mailed the card back, but, fearing it wouldn't have been recieved mentioned it to a poll worker.
She was quite surprised, and took out a sheet of yellow paper. It had four or five names and signatures on it, and among them was my "phantom boarder", with her signature clearly above MY address. I'm not sure what this short list was. I think it was people with iffy registration or late ones.
I can't wait for this woman to show up at the polls. The workers were very nice, took my number, and promised to call if she did. I sincerely hope she does show and gets charged with voter fraud.

So, what's the penalty for vote fraud. If it does not include mandatory jail time, there is something very wrong with our criminal justice system.
Too bad but that means she's voted and gone off to the next site.
There was a story out a week or so ago about the rat problem in Mexico. The ended up putting a 40 cent bounty on rats. Perhaps the GOP should put a bounty on 'RATs caught committing fraud.
If any people who've worked a poll before could tell me what that yellow sheet of paper might have been, I'm dying to know.

It was a photo copy signature for verification purposes, not her actual signature. I had a bad feeling when I recieved that card in the mail, and made darn sure I got to the polls first thing in the morning.

I hate to say this, but I've lived all my life here in Illinois where voter fraud has always been rampant(the cemeteries are harvested every two years here!), I've NEVER heard of one case where anyone was charged, indicted, or found guilty of fraudulent voting. Why? I think by the
time the cases could come up for hearing in the courts, the election would have been long past and those who were most incensed by the action have moved on.
I live in Florida. My girlfriend has been trying to get her deceased grandfather off the voter rolls forever. (She is very politically savvy, so when she says she has been through it, I can believe her.)
After 5 years, and all the calls and stuff she has sent in, she STILL got material from the county in the mail for him last week. She is so concerned about voter fraud here.

I would call the DOJ on this one. You may have prevented voter fraud this once, but send her to jail and you'll prevent it for a lifetime.
What it sounds like is the person impersonating the former resident was purged from the voter rolls thanks to your action of mailing back the registration card.
It sounds like the the special sheet may have been for people who recieved a "provisional ballot", and someone showed up impersonating the former resident, forging her signature. This sounds very much like a concerted effort by one of these shady leftwing 527 groups.
2 questions:
1) Do you live in a state with these provisional ballots?
2) Did the woman at the polling place make any note about it on the sheet?
If I were you, I would follow up on this as much as possible, including reporting it to the authorities, the election board, and your state GOP.
If she shows, the poll folks should call the police and have her arrested.
You can vote provisionally at the polling place, but there's no way they got the card back. I only mailed it yesterday and missed the last pick-up at that. That's why I was so concerned to mention it at the polls.
PS I had to laugh about your flooded basement story, because when I bought my house the seller made full disclosure of everything, including the leaky basement. There is nothing I have found in ten years that he didn't tell me about. Here's the thing - His real estate agent who listed the house, is a republican state delegate who is running for congress this year =)

I taught real estate law in California for 10 years. In California, a disclosure form is required that is signed by the owner and broker that gives a complete picture of the condition of the property. If your state has that and the owner lied in the disclosure, you have recourse. If your state doesn't use that disclosure, you most likely have recourse for up to four years from the time you discover the fraud. If she is a teacher and a lib, although I dislike lawsuits, go rip out her throat in court.
I see that we Californians are up early!
I hope that she doesn't cheat at all and votes only once in her regular voting district--for Bush, of course!
