Can you imagine the public meltdown she could have after a defeat? It's gonna take a boat load of raisins.

Perception plays a role in any decision making process. Body language and facial expressions can tell you about how people are feeling. I agree that voters should be voting on the issues, not appearance. That was not my point. I sense that the Bush camp has reason to be optomistic and the Kerry camp does not. For whatever reason, Fox chose to show the pictures they did. There was a stark contrast.

I heard Mike Barnicle on Hannity the other day. He was making the same observation. Bush looks real and connects with people. Kerry is aloof. Look at the contrast with the acceptance speeches. Kerry was on a pedestal - alone - distant. Bush had the theater in the round look. No matter where the camera went, you could see people - enthusiasm - energy.

These are qualities that voters look for. In the end, it will be a good night for President Bush - in part because of how he connects to people.

I agree with you that we can judge them on body language and that we do judge them on appearance (we will never have another FAT president). It is certainly legitimate to pay attention to how they present themselves at their conventions, or at the debates. My problem here is we are basically taking a couple of still shots of each, and using them to build a story. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but they can also be one of the basest forms of spin! Completely different stories can be told by pictures taken within moments of eachother!

That, of course, is taking this all way to seriously. I actually like the pictures a lot.

I'm giddy too. Did you see Mark Mellman calling 51.7 for Bush, and Ed Goeas using a conservative poll model to get 51.x for Bush as well. Both were 3.5 margins. Kinda kewl.
