Senate hopeful Democratic Congresswoman Denise Majette said Monday a company owned by her opponent, Republican Congressman Johnny Isakson, was guilty of discrimination.
As both candidates crisscrossed the state, the Majette campaign distributed information that accused Isaksons company, Northside Realty, of discriminating against Black homebuyers in the early 1970s.
The company, which was founded by Isaksons father and also run by him at the time of the charges, was found in violation of the Fair Housing Act by the federal government in 1970.
The public needs to know what his record is and Im not doing anything other than informing the public about the full story, Majette said.
Isakson, who enjoys a double-digit lead in polls, responded angrily in Savannah.
It's a pretty low person that would attack someone's father when he's been passed away for 11 years, and in the '70s my father was involved in a case that worked out just fine, Isakson said. My father was a wonderful man, I miss him to this day. Im sorry she'd choose to take something like that and try and make it into something in a political race.
Throughout October, Majette has employed an aggressive strategy and has relentlessly portrayed Isakson as a corrupt politician brought off by special interests.
The impact of his votes and the way he has conducted business as a public official is significant and the people of Georgia need to understand that, Majette said.
Professor Michael Binford, a political scientist at Georgia State University, said Majette was likely trying to erode Isaksons image by raising doubts about his character.
I think it's probably a last-minute charge and probably won't be heard by many people, he said. It might affect a few votes, but probably nothing substantial.
A poll by SurveyUSA released on Sunday showed Isakson leading Majette 56 percent to 40 percent.
Isakson was on a seven-city tour to drum support for his candidacy and to also help a GOP takeover of the state House of Representatives, giving Republicans complete control of the state capitol.
That women needs a diet!!! Must be related to Liz Edwards; never saw a cafe they could leave. What a porker!!!
Typical.
We'll be sending that grotesque pig back to the slop house in just a few hours.
Sleazy pig.
I don't think that dog will hunt. There are lots of whites who are fed up with cheapshot cries of racism. Is each new generation supposed to inherit the guilt of ancestors actions?
Yeah -- those ads pissed me off. She was forced to change the ads over the last two days (did you notice?); but they are still dishonest (and sound just plain stupid).
For those not in the know, the new ads have her b*tching over Isakson's desire to pass a new 23% sales tax. No other explanation, no nothing.
Then again, if she explained it, she'd look even more stupid than she already appears.
Just damn.
Say goodnight, Denise
you confuse this diappointment with the hatefillrd, anti-jewish Jihad McKinney.
Too late, baby. Your tactics will fall flat, again.
Be seeing you all at Isakson's victory party tomorrow, a decade after his first big win. Wow, that went fast!
