INTERVENTION TO HEAD OFF ELECTION LOSS
DASCHLE LAWYERS GO TO FEDERAL COURT AT 8:00 PM TONIGHT TO STEAL VOTES, ELIMINATE REPUBLICAN POLL WATCHERS
SIOUX FALLS Anticipating a loss to Republican challenger John Thune tomorrow ending his 26-year congressional career, Senator Tom Daschle will seek federal judicial intervention in the election process tonight, Monday, November 1 during an emergency hearing in federal court in Sioux Falls at 8:00 PM.
The hearing will be before Federal Judge Larry Piersol who was appointed by Daschle to federal court and served as Daschles personal legal counsel in 1978.
This is nothing short of an attempt to steal an election Tom Daschle knows he is about to lose tomorrow, said Thune for Senate campaign manager Dick Wadhams. Daschles goon lawyers will seek to get Republican poll watchers removed from reservations and for voters to lose their right to vote.
Lawyers representing Tom Daschle successfully called for the hearing tonight in front of Daschle-appointed Judge Piersol.
The Pennington County Auditor was informed earlier today that Daschle lawyers will seek to ban the counting of legitimate absentee ballot requests in Pennington County tomorrow, Election Day, morning.
Longtime friend Larry Piersol (PEER-sol) says people here feel that Tom Daschle is one of them.
Boyhood friend: Another friend from (Tom) Brokaw's youth credits him with giving his life direction. In 1969, Lawrence Piersol - then a South Dakota attorney - was having dinner with the Brokaws in Los Angeles. ''He asked me: 'What are you going to do for the state?' " Piersol recalled. The attorney ended up running for the Legislature and becoming a Democratic leader in the early '70s.
''He's a really good friend,'' said Piersol, now a U.S. District judge in Sioux Falls. ''If the chips were down, he's the kind of guy you would want to be in the foxhole with. He passes that test.''
Rhenquist is out for now. I can only hope that Scalia would be the one to make the call.

It amazes me that he doesn't even care how transparent & obvious it all is!
>>
Like most politicians he is relying on the historically short memory of the American electorate. He has no options but to pull out all the stops or grasp at whatever straws present themselves.
"It is not a matter simply of the appearance of bias or potential for favoritism towards one party. This is why federal judges are regarded as powerful. Once they get your case, it's very rare that anyone takes it away from them."
Just plain Wrong!!! No wonder corruption spreads so easy.
"[a.k.a. The Little Mouse on the Prairie]"
You are slandering the memory of my grandfather's first cousin, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Dashole would never have survived the life they lived much of their early time on the prarie. He could never have done any of the physical work done by Pa, or by Ma, for that matter. You also slander prairie mice! :)
Also, note that Laura's daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, was Herbert Hoover's biographer for a time. They originally crossed paths in San Francisco (before SF became the bastion of extreme leftism and perversion). A fair bit of our family history is preserved in documents in the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in Iowa. My great grandfather was the "uncle Laura never knew" - he was killed fighting with the Oconomowoc Rifle Co, 16th Wisconsin Regiment, at Shiloh in the Civil War. His great grandfather helped dump tea. And now you know the rest of the story...
Thanks again for widening our frame of reference.
Maybe if something really bad comes up then Rhenquist Will come a crawling to the bench. We can hope.
And what was his net worth when he initially went to Congress? Finally, a wordless picture of his DC mansion, and the people of SD may begin to see the light...
He may be the only Federal Judge in the State.
Losers always sue.
Tommy can't win without stuffing the ballot box. Got to stop him.
2 live updates from: http://daschlevthune.typepad.com/daschle_v_thune/2004/11/live_report_fro.html
UPDATE: Daschle rests. Cancels other witness because first one got destroyed. Dismissal requested by Republicans. Dismissal denied.
UPDATE: Thune campaign manager Dick Wadhams just gave a blistering interview to KSFY Television. 190 people outside courthouse in pro-Thune flash mob, including Sen. Jim Abdnor, who came down and said "we need voters to decide this race not judges."
Live Report From Courtroom
A Mr. Jordan was just testifying at the hearing in Daschle's lawsuit to stop poll watching. He worked for Howard Dean in Iowa. He said that poll watchers would "roll their eyes" and make a "negative face" at times and that, in his opinion, this constituted "intimidation" of voters. See SDP for a look at the complaint.
UPDATE: Another report on Daschle's first witness, the Howard Dean worker. He's a lawyer from Virginia who works for Lexis-Nexis and has been in South Dakot for 48 hours. He testified to "note-taking" and "faces" being made. He said nothing was said to voters and nobody was disenfranchised. They are taking a short break before the next witness. Lawyers in the courtroom think this is an absurd joke. SDP calls it "The Death Rattle of Daschle's Political Career."
UPDATE: SDP has some more information on the judge, including this comment from Daschle at the American TRIAL LAWYERS Association convention:
First, I got my start in politics thanks to lawyers... rather, one lawyer in particular. In 1978, I won my first election to the House by 14 votes. Dont laugh, in South Dakota, thats 60 percent of the vote. Apparently undaunted by that landslide of support, my opponent sued to contest the election. I was fortunate to be represented by a great lawyer and a dear friend, Larry Piersol. It took one year and 21 days, but here I am 25 years later.
UPDATE: Daschle rests. Cancels other witness because first one got destroyed.
Dismissal requested by Republicans.
Lets hope this means the Daschle campaign's recent internal polling has gone very badly for them.
From the Daschle vs. Thune blog just now:

Thank you for the link. Does anyone know the grounds for his case to not count absentee votes in Pennington Cty.?
Demons go out kicking and screaming and clawing for a foot hold, so who can be all that surprised.
UPDATE: So apparently Daschle couldn't find anyone to say there were "intimidated" so they dragged in a Howard Dean supporter from Virginia who worked in Iowa who has been in South Dakota a day to complain about faces being made.
I'm a Sioux Falls native.
My father came to know Larry Piersol quite well through business dealings and I've personally met the guy, though that was years ago.
This guy is as liberal as it gets.
People in South Dakota should be screaming to the high heavens about this! This is not right!!!
