Britt Hume just quizzed the Fox pollster, who looks to be about 25, on the strange results of weekend polls. The pollster said there's really no difference between Fox having Kerry +2 and Battleground with Bush +3. Same number. That's social science, he says.
Then Britt brought up the more glaring state poll results Fox has. Kerry 49 Bush 43 in Florida vs. Quinnipiac having Bush 51 Kerry 43. Again, he said that those 2 polls says the same thing(!!) but the pollster REALLY looked sheepish after he said it. He said Fox is not very good at taking state polls, since they're so new at it. Florida is particularly hard, he says because of its great diversity. Also that Halloween on a Sunday is very hard to poll on. When do you call, during the day, at night? Are you under-representing people with kids who aren't answering the phone?
Britt was very gentle with this guy, but I think Britt was embarassed also. Fred Barnes said the Fox poll was junk. Fox should have seen that when they saw Kerry leading among men(??), "no one believes that. A Halloween poll, on a Sunday? Fox should have thrown that poll out not issued it."
He also again sort of restated the canard that the "polls are about right," ie. that this is a "toss up." No! A "toss up " is when one guy leads in half the polls and the other guy in the other half, not when one guy has led in virtually ALL the polls for the entire campaign, with a rare single-day exception.
Man, I wish we could simply outlaw polling. So many people put so much credence in polls, and in the end, many of them are worthless. I'm hoping tomorrow isn't simply a big defeat for Kerry, but also for the MSM, and their polling operations.
Yes that makes sense. Only the Republicians would be home to answer the phone. All the democrats where out tring to get free candy.
A question - What is the status of Colorado?
Gary Hart said it's in play, and Cheney there today proves it. What's happening there?
Another brilliant analysis. Thanks.
The only thing I'll give him credit for is admitting that most polling outfits aren't any good at state polls...in that department, Mason-Dixon remains the gold standard.
I think he was smoking crack.
Yeah, I saw that too. I don't know what to think right now, other than my a** is getting to the polls tomorrow and I am bringing as many people as possible with me.
All the Dems would be out worshipping Satan, the father of lies. :-)
Good report and I think this poll is the one that has all of the Freepers scared. If FOX would have had Bush up then there would be a party in the streets. I am glad Brit cleared it up.
I put on my tin foil hat after this poll came out and thought that FOX was throwing an olive branch to the Kerry campaign after Cavuto's made the Kerry campaign mad and they decided to boycott FOX.
I think seeing this poll is good for the Republicans. We don't stop until this election is over.
I predict (and I know everyone has a prediction) the Presidential election will be decided early in the night and Bush will win decisively.
Who wants to bet that Fox has Bush up tomorrow by at least one point?
Yes...Well that too.
Anyone have a link to the final Mason-Dixon results?
Fox News/Opinion Dynamics were HORRIBLE in State Polling in 2000.. They were one of the worst.
Did you just see those shots of Bush and Kerry? Bush was surrounded with people, and Kerry was standing alone. Were there even people there?
CO was never in serious play. The Veep was probably trying to get the base out to help Pete Coors.
Kerry's campaign threatened to boycott Fox? BWAHAHAHAHAHA.... Seriously, does anyone know a hard-bitten partisan Democrat who watches Fox?
Fox continues to lose credibility.
I am relieved Britt has delved into the Fox poll.
