Vietnam veteran and major Kerry backer former Senator Bob Kerrey said Sunday that the presidential candidate should apologize to his fellow Vietnam veterans for accusing them of committing war crimes.
Asked whether Kerry should "apologize" for his 1971 admission that he committed "the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers," the Nebraska Democrat told NBC's "Meet the Press", "I think he shou . . ," before stopping in mid-word.

Asked whether Kerry should "apologize" for his 1971 admission that he committed "the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers," the Nebraska Democrat told NBC's "Meet the Press", "I think he shou . . ," before stopping in mid-word.
Kerrey then explained:
"This is what I think he should say: 'I tried to end this war, along with lots of other veterans . . . But what I said I know hurt people. It know it hurt veterans out there. It made it difficult for them.'"
Kerrey urged Kerry: "I think he needs to acknowledge that he hurt people. I think it would go a long way towards defusing some of the pain that Vietnam veterans feel."
An apology won't cut it. I won't forget. I won't forgive.
Too little, too late.
Hmmm, sounds like Kerry is still trailing, so maybe an apology will help him out. Some voters in this country will fall for it.
Too little too late! Thirty years too late in fact!
Finally, the first moment of truth and clarity reaches the Kerry campaign.
It's not in him to apologize. It's beneath him. Don't hold your breath.
The real appology would be if he recused himself from running for the position of CINC.
He should apologize and then perform Hari Kari...just a thought.
"Apologize? Do you know who I am?" JF'nK
Too little...too late!!
Don't bother, effin. I'll accept no apology from you. It wouldn't be sincere anyway.
Kerry was in Viet Nam?
Why bother. It would just be a lie anyway. Kerry isn't a damn bit sorry about his past.
ditto
it would just be another political flip-flop for his political gain......he's dug in his lying heels and will take it to his grave.
The beauty of this remark though, is that Kerrey inadvertently reminded people that Kerry has NOT apologized and further- if he did so now it would seem even too crass for him.
Politically it's a win-win for us.
Morally- it seems unlikely he can ever say anything to undo the damage and harm he caused to untold numbers of Vietnam vets.
No, Bob. He must admit he is a traitor and leave the race.
Yep, we could see through that even if he tried it...And he hasn't! This is ONLY a suggestion from Bob Kerrey. If JK wanted to apologize then he shoudl do it AFTER he loses the election on Tuesday. Then POSSIBLY it would mean something.
