Daily News Briefs October 31, 2004 Task Force 1-6, 213th ING provide security for governors office BAQUBAH, Iraq Soldiers from Task Force 1-6 and 213th Iraqi National Guard soldiers daily stand guard at the governors office here. TF 1-6 Soldiers and ING soldiers reside at the governors office in order to provide around-the-clock security for the governor and his staff. Town meetings and press conferences are held at the governors office. PJCC equipped with 95 percent technological equipment to support elections SALAH AD DIN, Iraq The Provincial Joint Coordination Center here is equipped with about 95 percent of the technological equipment needed to provide support to Iraqi agencies during the upcoming elections. The PJCC is connected to the Internet, Iraqi phone services and is equipped with fax machines. The center also has the ability to communicate with coalition forces via Iraqi landline. Iraqi National Guard soldiers establish company command post AD DULUYIAH, Iraq Soldiers from Alpha Company, 203rd Iraqi National Guard have established a command post run solely by the ING. The command post relays reports to the municipal Joint Coordination Center and conducts battle-tracking drills. Task Force 2-108 detains High Value Target FOB ORYAN, Iraq Soldiers from Task Force 2-108 detained Mohammed Ghazi, a Task Force Ghazi High Value Target, on Oct. 27, for supporting Anti-Iraqi Forces activities. Soldiers detain HVT responsible for AIF financing, embezzlement and local government corruption. Repairing of water treatment plant 80 percent complete BAYJI, Iraq The Al Tagadum Company is 80 percent complete repairing the Bayji K2 Water Treatment plant and connecting it to the Al Sinnya distribution pipes. Clean drinking water is an extremely important step in infrastructure development. Bravo Company, 9th Engineer Battalion, ING soldiers train together FOB REMAGEN, Iraq Soldiers from Bravo Company, 9th Engineer Battalion and the 30th Iraqi National Guard Bomb Disposal Company conducted joint training on UXO identification and safety Oct. 21-26. This is the first week of an intensive 12-week training program designed to bring the 30th ING Bomb Disposal Company up to EOD standards. Bravo Company, 99th Engineer Battalion, 30th ING hone skills together FOB REMAGEN, Iraq Soldiers from Bravo Company, 9th Engineer Battalion and the 30th Iraqi National Guard Bomb Disposal Company conducted joint training on land navigation. Over 30 soldiers were trained during the six-day program. The engineers and ING soldiers partnered in various land navigation skills. Eight fire stations to be renovated in Salah Ad Din FOB DANGER, Iraq In less than three weeks, American-based contractor Bechtel Company, will begin renovating eight fire stations selected by the Ministry of Emergency Services. A pre-construction meeting with Iraqi district engineers and U.S. Army Corps Engineers will convene next week. 209th ING soldiers develop marksmanship skills DAQUQ, Iraq On Oct. 28, soldiers with the 209th Iraqi National Guard conducted Basic Rifle Marksmanship. The BRM range familiarizes soldiers with proper firing techniques while giving them confidence with their equipment. The soldiers zeroed and qualified with their weapons. October 30, 2004 Imams Present Ramadan Message on TV Kirkuk, Iraq- On 27 October, on Kirkuk television, local Imams representing Arab, Kurdish, Shia, and Sunni Muslims discussed Ramadan observance and denounced the use of suicide bombings and kidnapping. They communicated that all ethnicities should live as one. Al Zaharra Health Clinic Opens Balad, Iraq- Task Force 1-77 Soldiers conducted a grand opening of the Al Zaharra Health Clinic. The clinic will offer health care to 3000 people in the area. Rehabilitation Hospital Opens after renovations Kadasia, Iraq- After replacing the heating, air conditioning, and hot water system using CERP funds, the Salah Din Rehabilitation hospital reopened. The new clinic will offer physical therapy services to the Iraqi people. It is the only rehabilitation clinic in Iraq. Reflexive fire and MOUT training for Iraqi National Guard Baqubah, Iraq- The Iraqi National Guard received reflexive fire and MOUT training from 1st Infantry Division Soldiers from 82nd Battalion. The training included squad and platoon tactics such as dismounted patrolling, traffic control point procedures, and raids. Election awareness conducted Baqubah, Iraq- Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment are working with local community leaders to improve awareness of the upcoming elections in the community. The increased awareness will facilitate maximum participation.

October 29, 2004 Soldiers discover rocket firing system Kirkuk, Iraq- Task Force Danger Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment found a working rocket firing system. The find results in removing a potentially harmful piece of arsenal from the AIFs arsenal. Kirkuk Police hold press conference on kidnapping ring Kirkuk, Iraq- The Kirkuk Police held a press conference to inform the media of six kidnappers that had been apprehended in the Kirkuk area. The arrests signified to the civilians that the crimes against Iraqis will not be tolerated. JCC area improved Balad Ruz, Iraq- Task Force Danger Soldiers from 105th Engineer Battalion, 30th Brigade Combat Team emplaced Hesco barriers around the JCC building. They also improved and stabilized the sewage drainage system around the building. ING Medics improve skills Ad Dawr, Iraq- Medics from the 201st ING Battalion trained with 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment medics to improve their skills. The medics will set up an aid station to treat the civilians in the area. Basic Rifle Marksmanship training for Iraqi Police Tikrit, Iraq- The Iraqi National Police received BRM from 1st Infantry Division Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment. The training further enhances the skills of the INP in conducting their duties. Road Security and Clearance Operations Samarra, Iraq- Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment and Iraqi National Guard have partnered together in conducting traffic control points, vehicle and personnel searches. The INGs proficiency in these tasks will soon enable them to secure the areas independently. ING Responds to VCIED Judaydah, Iraq- Soldiers from the 204th ING Battalion responded to a VCIED attack. They established roadblocks at key intersections allowing the Iraqi fire brigades and recovery asset teams easier access to the attack area. Road resurfacing to begin Baqubah, Iraq- Baqubah City council recently hired a local contractor to resurface a main road in the Shifta district. October 28, 2004 Traffic Police Headquarters hosts media tour Kirkuk, Iraq- Chief Salar Ahmmad Faqea of the Kirkuk Traffic Police and the Kirkuk media hosted a media tour at the KTP headquarters on Oct. 26. Chief Faqea addressed traffic issues during the media tour and then led the press on a tour of the facility. Increased traffic is a major issue facing the local citizens. Joint effort results in large enemy cache Ad Dujayl, Iraq- Multinational Soldiers working in coordination with the 203rd Iraqi National Guard Battalion, discovered a large enemy cache in Ad Dujayl on Oct. 24. This proved to be one of the larger caches to date located by their combined forces. Multinational Forces team meets with hospital director Baqubah, Iraq- Multinational Soldiers with Kasin Al-Ualdi, Director for the Al Batol Hospital for Women and Children in Baqubah on Oct. 26. The team discussed current conditions and needs of the hospital. Police chief attends security meeting Khalis, Iraq- Col. Muhammed Mahmoud Al-Taiy, the new Khalis Police Chief, attended his first meeting with members of the Joint Security Council in Khalis on Oct. 26. The meeting focused on developing greater partnership between the Iraqi National Guard and police force by increasing joint patrols. Ad Duluiyah City Council holds meeting Ad Duluiyah, Iraq- The Ad Duluiyah City Council held a meeting at a Multinational Forces military base on Oct. 26. The council discussed Joint Coordination Center positions and local election issues. Recently, the council has been meeting with increased regularity and has a diversity of representation. Iraqi Security Forces come together Bedra, Iraq- Department of Border Enforcement, Gen. Sube, Iraqi Police and Iraqi National Guard worked together . to collect the remains of 44 brothers in arms and 4 civilians who were executed near the city of Bedra. They were executed while on leave just after they had graduated from basic training. Captured Enemy Ammunition cleared from Tikrit North Tikrit, Iraq - Over 115,988 lbs. of Captured Enemy Ammunition were loaded and hauled from Tikrit on Oct. 24. The completion of this load brings the total of CEA removed from Tikrit North to over 2,187,682 lbs. A total of 10,034 items of unexploded ordinance have been destroyed on the premises as well. |
October 27, 2004 Salah Ad Din JCC Starts Readiness Exercise AD DULUIYAH, Iraq The Joint Coordination Cell completed the first day of a four day Salah Ad Din Readiness Exercise here on Oct. 25. Day one focused on staff battle drills, with the JCC staff reacting to a large fire in the city, a report of a kidnapping in the Jabouri Peninsula and a report of a VBIED by the Provincial JCC. The intent of the exercise is to develop the communication and reaction capabilities of local JCCs and train JCC staff on emergency response procedures. Weekly council press conference KIRKUK, Iraq Members of the Kirkuk Provincial Government routinely make themselves available to the media in order to keep the public informed on the manner in which the governorate is leading the province to a successful future. This week, the provincial deputy Governor, Ismael Haddidy and the provincial chief council member, Tahseen Ali Wali, held a press conference following the weekly provincial council meeting. Multinational and ING soldiers develop bond FORWARD OPERATING BASE PALIWODA, BALAD, Iraq A joint celebration was held at FOB Paliwoda on Oct. 13 after the success of Operation Baton Rouge. Multinational and ING Soldiers listened to music and shared a meal. The Soldiers celebrated after fighting together in Samarra. Multinational and C/201st ING Soldiers destroy Cache BAYJI, Iraq Soldiers from the 201st ING Battalion in cooperation with Multinational Soldiers advisors discovered, seized and destroyed a sizeable cache of artillery shells in a remote area south of FOB Summerall. The cache was destroyed in place. Based on intelligence developed by the ING, the operation demonstrates C/201 INGs continuing progress toward assuming greater security responsibilities in sector. Emergency response exercise TIKRIT, Iraq - On Oct. 20, the Tikrit Emergency Response Unit conducted its second emergency response exercise in order to sustain critical skills and demonstrate proficiency. The exercise was a hostage scenario based in Tikrit. The training included an After Action Review and retraining in order to meet the standard. Baqubah Adopt-A-Highway Workers BAQUBAH, Iraq The Adopt-A-Highway workers in BaQubah concentrated on cleaning up the streets. There are 100 workers in this program and they continue to make a noticeable difference to the streets of the city. The Adopt-A-Highway program has provided Iraqi citizens with employment and instilled the pride of a clean and safe BaQuabah. MULTINATIONAL FORCES and ING CONDUCTS CORDON AND SEARCH MUQDADIYAH, Iraq Multinational forces conducted joint cordon and search with 205th ING. Seized contraband included one artillery round, one PKC, one Dragonov sniper rifle, seven AK-47s, one cell phone, one digital video camera, various AIF propaganda (JAME and Hamas documents), four mortar rounds and two detonation devices. 204 ING conducts joint patrol DOJIMA, Iraq - The 204th ING conducted a joint patrol/SOI engagement in the town of Dojima in an effort to find information on recent attacks on LSAA from the Dojima area and to demonstrate the INGs willingness to help the people of Dojima. |
October 26, 2004 Soldiers conduct assessment of Jabouri Peninsula Ad Duluiyah, Iraq- Multinational Soldiers conducted an assessment of the needs of the Jabouri Peninsula on Oct. 24. The civil affairs team was able to conduct face-to-face engagements with different parts of the area, assessing some of their outstanding needs. Hawija District Civil Military Work Group meets in Kirkuk Kirkuk, Iraq- The Hawija Civil Military Work Group met at the Kirkuk Governorate Building on Oct. 24. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss fuel shipments moving through the district from Bayji to Kirkuk and which markets would give the best prices for the cotton crop. Kirkuk Projects Coordination Committee holds weekly meeting Kirkuk, Iraq- The Kirkuk Project Coordination Committee held its weekly meeting at the Kirkuk Government Complex on Oct. 24. The committee is a fully functioning element of the Kirkuk Provincial Government capable of making decisions affecting the future construction efforts in the province. Kirkuk Provincial Council Security Committee holds meeting Kirkuk, Iraq- The Kirkuk Provincial Council Security Committee held its weekly meeting at the Kirkuk Government Building on Oct. 24. The KPCSC is ethnically balanced and meets weekly to determine the best course of action to secure the Kirkuk Province. Dibis School receives Kerosene heaters Dibis, Iraq- Dibis schools received 100 kerosene heaters on Oct. 20. The heaters were donated by Multinational Forces as part of a Commanders Emergency Response Program project. The Iraqi National Guard, Dibis Police and MNF are dedicated to providing needed equipment and services to the Dibis District. Soldiers conduct vehicle checkpoints ASAFB, Iraq- Members of the 204th Iraqi National Guard Battalion conducted multiple vehicle checkpoints along the ASAFB on Oct. 24. The ING members were searching for illegal weapons and contraband as part of a joint patrol with Multinational forces. Iraqi National Guard members receive training Mansuriyah, Iraq- Members of the 204th and 213th Iraqi National Guard Battalions received training on how to enter and clear a building at Forward Operating Base Normandy, Mansuriyah on Oct. 24. Soldiers helping to rebuild city hall Buhriz, Iraq- Multinational Soldiers met with Saad Adnan Abood in Buhriz on Oct. 23. Saad was paid $50,000 for his completed work on the Buhriz City Hall building. Saad thanked the Soldiers and said the building will be completed in 20 days. |
October 25, 2004 Tactical team enables cavalry units operate effectively Ad Duluiyah, Iraq- Soldiers with the 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry psychological operations team emplaced wanted posters of anti-Iraqi forces in Ad Duluiyah on Oct. 20. The PSYOP team worked closely with Ground Cavalry Troops and the Civil Affairs Team in Operation Ad Duluiyah Sunrise. Officials work with Soldiers to address security issues As Sadiya, Iraq- Task Force 252 Soldiers met with local officials to discuss security in As Sadiya on Oct. 14. The meeting was due to concern with Ramadans influence on anti-Iraqi forces activity. The individuals involved discussed ways to work jointly to gain and share information on AIF activity. Iraqi Security Forces award ceremony held Tikrit, Iraq- Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry conducted an awards ceremony in Tikrit on Oct. 20. The ceremony was to recognize the courage and dedication of the Tikrit Iraqi Security Forces. Members of the 201st Iraqi National Guard Battalion were honored for their courage under fire in Samarra. Potential polling sites for upcoming election inspected Khalis, Iraq- The staff at the Khalis Joint Coordination Center held a meeting on Oct. 23 in Kahlis to determine potential polling sites for the upcoming elections. The JCC is preparing to serve as the command and control element for the Iraqi Security Forces during the election process. React to contact advance training conducted Mansuriyah, Iraq- Members of the 205th Iraqi National Guard Battalion participated in advanced combat training at Forward Operating Base Normandy, Mansuriyah, Iraq on Oct. 23. Currently, the ING are working on react-to-contact battle drill in order to develop proficiency in small unit tactics. Soldiers provide Basic Rifle Marksmanship training Baqubah, Iraq- Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 6th Artillery conducted Basic Rifle Marksmanship training with soldiers from 213th Iraqi National Guard Battalion at Forward Operating Base Gabe, Baqubah on Oct. 23. BRM is another step of training being provided from TF 1-6 to improve individual soldiering skills. |
