Dreier targeted on immigration [R-CA Congressman, target of John and Ken, KFI]

House Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier is waging a furious re-election battle after he was targeted by a Los Angeles radio talk show as a "political human sacrifice" for his record on illegal immigration.

In the past month, Mr. Dreier and Republicans have spent an estimated $1 million to blanket his district with fliers and radio ads ...

A 24-year House veteran who hasn't faced a formidable foe in two decades, Mr. Dreier appeared to be ignoring the hoopla until he received the results of an internal poll Oct. 6, said his opponents.

[snip]

Three weeks ago, Mr. Dreier introduced legislation to hire 700 new border enforcement agents and protect Social Security cards from fraud, a move his opponents blasted as a shameless ploy to bolster his record.

"All of a sudden, he's active, introducing legislation, filing complaints, putting out hit pieces," Ms. Matthews said. "But people are tired of it. It's too little, too late."

Crtical votes in Congress tend to be decided on strict party lines. Replacing Drieier with a democrat not only makes the illegal invasion worse, it makes the overall situation worse.

First we cap off Joe Baca--then we can afford to sacrifice Drier.

Any polling numbers?

Idiot Californians. Replace a Republican soft on immigration with a Democrat even softer on immigration.

I happen to agree with his position on immigration, but I would vote against him for his failure to vote for the constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage.

Doug McIntyre of KABC has also been chipping away at Drier.

The Dem opponent speaks very tough on illegal immigration. So much so that she has been "cut-off" by the state party!

As John and Ken would say, it's time to fire and retire Dreier the liar. I, too, have heard all those Dreier ads about his "real record." True, Dreier might be against driver's licenses and welfare benefits, but he doesn't want to stop illegals from coming here in the first place.

Don't worry if Republicans lose a seat in Congress. The Republicans who control Congress are RINOs. All across the country, Republican candidates who oppose illegal immigration are not getting the funding and support they need to win. A Dreier defeat would send a powerful message to RINO traitors like Dennis Hastert.

Furthermore, the Democrat who might replace Dreier would be easily defeated in 2006 and replaced with a real conservative.

Drier will not lose. Not everyone in his district take their political advice from dopey, juvenile talk show hosts like John and Ken.

My FRiend, no incumbent is ever "easily defeated" and unfortunately there are no term limitations in Congress. Throwing a Republican (and staunch Bush supporter) out of office is extremely ill-adivsed at this time.

Dreier's ACU rating is 92% lifetime. Yeah, he's a good one to get rid of...

Although Dreier is a disappointment on many immigration matters, attacking him in the GENERAL election is no way to move to the right on that issue. Perhaps in the PRIMARY, but it's too late for that.

This notion that one can elect a Democrat there, but then get a Republican back in in 2006, is wishful thinking. Case in point: My district, which neighbors that of Dreier to the west, used to have GOP James Rogan as its House Rep., but swing voters elected Democrat Adam Schiff over Rogan in 2000 due to their ire over Rogan's role in the Clinton impeachment. Guess what? Schiff is still in office, pretending to be "moderate" yet voting hard-left right along with Waxman-Berman-Sherman on most issues.

Fortunately, we may get the best possible result. Namely: Dreier wins BUT gets one heck of a scare, and hence moves right on immigration.

Replace a Republican soft on immigration with a Democrat even softer on immigration.

So for two years you lose one House seat to a leftist pig. Big deal. If it gets the GOP leadership to rethink its position on immigration, then it will have been well worth it.

California would be in play if Bush took a hard line on immigration.

Drier will not lose.

Maybe not. But if John and Ken make it close and force Dreier to spend a lot more money than he otherwise would, their campaign will have succeeded. The goal here is a long term one: getting the GOP leadership to adopt a hard line on immigration, which just happens to be popular with voters. Whether or not Dreier actually keeps his seat is not important. It's only one seat among over 400 and only a two year term.

Not everyone in his district take their political advice from dopey, juvenile talk show hosts like John and Ken

Juvenile, yes. I'd also add crass, sensationalistic, and generally possessing bad taste. But Dopy? Not a chance. You've obviously not listened to them. They have an incredible knack for cutting to the essense of political issues, and they're very good at making dishonest politicians and/or ideoluges skwirm. Recalling Davis would have been a lot more difficult had not John and Ken led the charge against him.

And before you accusing me of being an out-of-stater, I was born and raised in California, my parents still live there, and I visit frequently.
