Regarding the questions surrounding Kerry's Discharge - we had a thought tonight...

Posted on 10/30/2004 10:46:08 PM PDT by mumzie

Had a thought tonight. Kerry is a Life Member of VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America). VVA fell out of VVAW.

When folks join VVA, they are required to furnish their DD-214. I wonder if there is a copy of that lovely form anywhere on record in the VVA offices????

Anyone know???

This is the site address for the VVA Board of Directors.

I just sent and email asking if they had one for kerry and if so was it legal/ethical for them to release it.

Probably gave them the modified 215.

I do not think he would have been accepted if he gave them a less than....discharge.

It is a piece of paper you get when you leave the service that summarizes your activities, medals and your discharge info.

To those who think this is a duplicate - you are right - you have my apologies.
When I hit the "post" button, I got a message that said "site unavailable" - so I tried it again.

Must have been a cyber-glitch.
(and yes - I posted this on the other message, too. :D)

B.G. Burkett says in Stolen Valor--an exhaustive study of how the Vietnam veteran has been maligned and exploited--that VVA was welcoming veterans with less than honorable discharges and counseling them on how to upgrade their discharges. Burkett has a rather low opinion of VVA because it has helped perpetuate the image of the Vietnam veteran as a loser, a victim and a freak. I believe Kerry is a charter member of VVA.

I am not at all familiar with them, I figured they would be like the others.

Less than honorables are not exactly approved of.
