London's Independent on Sunday is reporting that Tony Blair sent Philip Gould, "his polling guru" and "one of his closest advisers" to meet with Mary Beth Cahill on a "secret peace mission" to mend relations with John Kerry 10 days ago.

I came across this article as part of my October Surprise watch of the UK papers. So far, there's not much there there there.

We can't post from the Independent. The link is here, if you want to read more.

Cherie Blair is apparently on a speaking tour here at Harvard, badmouthing the president.

If true, it sure doesn't say much about Blair. I'm thinking it is NOT true.

Then we have Blair's wife going after Pres Bush in a closed meeting. Interesting!

If it's true it's nothing more than Blair hedging his bets politically, in order to ensure a smooth transition. I wouldn't fault Blair for doing it. I wouldn't fault Bush for sending somebody to talk to any challenger of Blair's.

Plenty of time after election. I think this is encroaching of the worst kind.

Cherie Blair met with and arranged for housing for their son near college. The people were organized crime figures.

She denied it before she admitted it.

Of course, being Labor the story didn't get too much attention.

I have profound sympathy for Tony Blair.

Ever notice her baby teeth?

It's creepy how small they are.

They look like a five-year old's teeth.

I had a great uncle who never shed his baby teeth and
still had his original baby teeth. He called them
"sheeps' teeth". Yes, I live only a generation or so
from pioneer days here in the hills.

Blair has a country to run. We'd do the same.

Dang, I was one of the PM's biggest Yankee aficionados, as well.

I agree he has a country to run, but I don't think we (or at least Pres Bush) would do the same. What's waiting a week or 2 until after the election is over - - I think anything before is disgraceful and I'm 1 of PM Blair's biggest supporters.
