I am new at this, and can anyone tell me why JFK's military records can not be obtained via the Freedom of Information act? I know that his records are of a personal nature but, once he runs for a public office, especially one as high as President of the United States. I would think that we all have the right to know all we can about this guy. The welfare of our country is at stake. This fact alone should place his records in the public domain! If not then, "Blast and Damned!" God Help us!
The FOIA cannot extend to certain personal military records
unless the serviceperson executes a Standard Form 180 (or
if the person is POTUS, executes an equivalent Executive
Order, which is what Bush did).
Kerry refuses to sign the SF-180, and the legacy media
refuses to call him on his lie that he's released everything
except his medical records. Between 32 and 100 pages of
material are still being withheld.
I remember reading that Kerry himself has to sign the Form 180 in order for them to be released. Apparently the FOIA does not apply to these types of records.
I can't believe that he actually made it through the campaign without SOMEONE forcing him to release those records.
Hey JAMES!
No dog would go to a Motel 6 with Kerry! Please don't insult the intelligence and taste of our canine patriots.
Welcome to FR. Maybe you should search this topic on FR--is has been discussed at length with "length" being the operative word.
Welcome aboard.
Some should sue him just to file a countersuit to keep them out of the public view, and the Headline will be "What is sKerry afraid of?"
They are in the same file cabinet that contains Bill Clinton's medical records. - Tom
wouldn't that be a French poodle? that dog won't hunt.
No, I'm pretty sure that the whole file is locked in someones desk, just waiting to be released. It says much, for the integrity of the pentagon, that no one has leaked it yet.
He made it through the campaign without being asked because he made sure he didn't go where they might ask him. I am sure he knows that Fox would ask the question, thus, no Kerry on Fox.
Does anyone here have any idea why Kerry doesn't want even the medical records released?

a. because it will reveal how minor the "wounds" were, and
b. the usual suspicions about recreational diseases
I don't know if this will help, but a little background from my perspective and experience. Kerry's, and all federal and military records are stored, as has been our knowledge (husband, retired officer, 28 years service), at the Federal Depository in the Salt Mines in Kansas City. The Pentagon does not have these papers. They couldn't have. Nothing gets out of the Federal Depository without the proper signature. In Kerry's case he must sign the Form 180, no matter who requests them, the form must be signed by him.
For anyone to attempt to take anything out of there without the proper signature is a Violation of Privacy Act. You cannot get anything out via the Freedom of Information Act because, as I said the person must agree to the release. These are our rights, and serve as safeguards to protect everyone. (As unfortunate as it might be in this case.)
A Violation of the Privacy Act, is...by the way...A Federal Felony. I doubt that anyone connected with this campaign, any "investigative reporter," or any one who seeks this information, even if for the "greater good," would be willing to risk that charge.
Unfortunately, unless something miraculous changes this situation we just have to hope that good will win out over evil in this election. Even if Kerry thinks he has the whole world fooled, it will Ketchup with him. Have hope. Bush will win on his Honorable Record - as our Commander and Chief.
The blame for the absence of medical records for Kerry can be laid at the feet of Papa Bush, who refused to nail Bill Clinton for not providing his, thus establishing this wack-o precedent.
It doesn't take much of a vet to figure out that there are some interesting medical conditions going on with Kerry.
