I would like to invite as many paople as possible to Fast and Pray on Monday, Nov. 1st for the re-election of George Bush on Tuesday. This election is a crucial one in our nations's history and quite possibly may effect the survival of our country and way of life. In the Bible, fasts were proclaimed in order to devote time to prayer and let God know that you were serious about what you were praying for. In Esther's time, a fast was called to save the Jewish people from Haman's treachery.
"Esther 4:13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther 4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
Esther 4:17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. "
And again in Isaiah 58
"5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rearward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."
If you could ping any list you have and email everyone you can, let's get God's attention on Monday.

Don't be too weak to make it to the polls:)
Be sure you get permission from the IRS before you pray for Bush... (/sarcasm)
I'm on board!
Vote first. Then fast and pray. "The Lord helps those that....don't leave their donkeys in a ditch."
I have permission...it's called the first amendment...it's not just for liberals anymore!
That sounds like a line from Fiddler on the Roof...
I'm there!
Count me in. I will be doing a serious prayer vigil that day as well...and I ask everybody who would like to join me in it to do so!
I will join you in this important work.

I'm in! Was going to do it anyway! (See how the Holy Spirit works?)
My church is doing one today, and I think tomorrow is the national day of prayer and fasting for the election, so what's one more day?! :)
Thanks for bringing up the topic! I'm glad to see others seriously praying over this election too!
Count me in.
Thanks...pass the word to EVERYONE!
Amen.
Excellent idea. I'm in.
Please ping your Maine list
