Quoting OBL in his message to Americans:
"Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or al Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands and each state which does not harm our security will remain safe."
OBL's statement is a direct threat to the people in the States carried by Bush in the election. The implied meaning is that the people in the States which go for Kerry will be safe.
This is a DIRECT threat, is it not?
Of course, it is an attempt to sway the presidential election.
OBL is saying that the States which want Kerry as President will be favoring a man who does NOT WANT TO HARM the security of the terrorists. Thus, those States will NOT BE ATTACKED, just as Sweden has not been attacked.
Yep, Kerry is OBL's man.
I didn't get that sense, I think he meant state as a synonym for nation.
I was struck by that yesterday, he is threatening the red states!
I think he thinks we are like a bunch of little city/states under the US flag. Sort of like ancient Greece. Anyway, I get confused over the blue/red state thing all the time so maybe he will hit a blue state instead. And what is he going to do about Ohio?
Whoever was translating this probably used "state" in the broader sense of "country," as in "nation-state," the more common international usage.
Kerry is Osama's man, Bush is mine.
Actually, John Kerry could wear a dirty headscarf, grow his beard out and go out trick or treating looking just like bin Laden filling his bag with lots of absentee ballots all marked for who else, John Kerry.
bin Laden is nuts. Anything more calculated to waken the sleeping tiger I can't imagine. His days are numbered.
I'm pretty sure his "states" mean nations.
Now that's a good idea! The only problem is that we have so few days before the election, or else we could propose a FR Osama-Kerry sign and t-shirt project.
That really doesn't make too much sense. The places that have been attacked and targeted are NYC, DC, LA, those are all as blue as you can get. It would be pretty difficult to pull off some big attack in a place like Wyoming, you need dense urban population in order to really kill a lot of people. And DC will always be a target because it is the nation's capital.
I hope the Spanish learned their lesson, and I certainly hope we don't repeat their mistake. This country was attacked by these Islamofacist scum under all administrations since LBJ, they don't want us to be Republican or Democratic, conservitive, socialist, liberal, communist. They want us to be MUSLIMS, and they want the people who already are Muslims to be their kind of Muslims, and after that, who knows, then they want everybody to be dead. They are just like the Nazis, they have already turned on their own.
They must be killed and defeated, and John Francois is NOT the man for that job. He abhors violence, doncha know.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't New York, where the WTC was hit by OBL in 1993 and destroyed in 2001, vote for Clinton and Gore?
No he meant the states that vote for Bush will be targeted and the states that vote for Kerry will be spared.
The context was the election.
Kerry is Osama's choice to lead our nation.
You beat me to it.
I don't trust the translations much at all. Even in the case of the tape which was released by the American terrorist Adam (Can't remember the last name starts witha G) about the blood running in the streets and dwarfing 9/11. He spoke in english and clearly used the name "Allah", however, in some of the transcripts I've read the name was changed to "Lord". Gives an entirely different flavor to the threat.
Having said that I have no idea of the intent of UBL's usage of the term that was translated "state". The only thing I'm certain of is the guy is pretty much impotent and has been reduced to recorded messages and threats. If he could have duplicated Spain I have no doubt he would have done so. GWB has done an excellent job of dismantling AQ's leadership. Hopefully UBl's little pre election greeting will turn more of those states bright red.
