WISCONSIN SURPRISE [John J. Miller] I'm skeptical about Republican Tim Michels beating Democratic senator Russ Feingold in the Wisconsin Senate race, but a friend at the NRSC just sent me tracking numbers that show Feingold's lead slipping from 13 points to 5 points in four days:

I think the race is tightening as voters go back to their roots, but Feingold is still going to win - probably by 3 to 5 points. There was no way Feingold was going to win by 15 points unless he was running against a total doofus of a candidate, which Michels is not.

As much as I'd like to see Russ Feingold go down in flames for his half of the McCain-Feingold empower George Soros campaign finance law, I doubt it will happen. Wisconsinites have a long history of backing "progressives". Feingold is one of them.

I have been working diligently for Tim in the Fox Valley, and I get very positive comments from all. But I have to be cautiously optimistic, as the Valley leans Republican.

I think Feingold will still win, but Michels is running a very good campaign and has a great radio ad out. I don't watch much TV, so I don't know abbout TV ads. People in Wisconsin have been restive in the last couple of years due to high taxation. This might resonate more with voters this year than in the past. Feingold is huge tax-and-spend lefty and I think his image of being a maverick might be wearing a little thin.

Our phone bank calls for the president also urge people to vote for Tim Michels, so he is getting some help there. We are making call by the hundreds of thousands here in Wisconsin. It is a sight to behold when the phone bank has more volunteers than phones!

There was a Michels ad out this morning - I'm assuming it's new - Rudy Guilliani is in endorsing Tim Michels. Hoping this will do it!

The race is obviously closing, and this, IMHO speaks well for Bush in the state. Michael Barone has an article a few weeks ago, in which his thesis is that because the country is so divided, we are going to see a much higher % of striaght ticket voting than anytime since 1980. So if the GOP senate candidate is doing well, one can deduce that at the top of the ticket, W will win by 5+%

That's what we're woring for. There has never been a larger grassroots effort in Wisconsin. I have it on good authority that the dems are going to be 'shocked' by what they see of our volunteers on Tuesday.

**Feingold's lead slipping from 13 points to 5 points in four days:**

Maybe Feingold won't be Minority Leader after all. (We all know that Dimwit Obstructionist Daschle is on his way out.)

couple of points,

I was Michaels at Wausau, a very good canidate (former Army Ranger officer, sucessful small businsessman great family, tall, good speaker) if he does not beat Feingold he will proabaly take down Kohl in the future. He was pretty good in the debates

Much of his Senate run has involved national security so perhaps the new Bin Laden tape will help

The RNC has recently sent over $600,000 for Michaels so maybe they are seeing an opening

Hopefully there will be a coattails effect with a large Bush win

I am inclined to believe that Feingold will hold on but I do thinks this is closer than it was built up to be.

I donated to the Michels campaign.

The narrowing margin translates to a surge for Bush.

We will see a big surprise on Tuesday.

The Fox Valley is the Republican base. If he was not doing well there, he'd be going down in flames.

I'll be voting for Michaels, but I have to say that Feingold is gonna be tough to beat. He's spending tons of money on ads {so much for Campaign Reform}, and if I didn't know better, I'd beleive the ads -- They're good.

The Recent money from the RNC probably DOES Explain the recent Michael's Ads, that have also been good.

Between the criminally high taxes, rampant Illinois style vote fraud....and a Gov and AG who turn their backs on Democrat crime...

Perhaps next time we Wisconsinites will shake off all DNC RATs gnawing on our necks...

We need to start shopping for a new Gov and AG ASAP

Scott Walker will run for governor. He'll be a great candidate.
