Judging by the excerpt from his book, it's clear that J. Edgar Hoover knew precisely what the communists were up to. He also seems very intelligent. It's no wonder he was slandered the way he was. I don't know much about him, but when I hear his name, a negative impression comes wafting in from my subconscious. I'm sure this is from years of unexamined exposure to the leftist charicature that exists in the various media -- Hoover as a paranoid nut, Hoover in a dress and high heels, etc. I used to get a similar impression of McCarthy, before I learned more about him.

I think maybe this question should be directed toward the ACLU.
Just do a google search for Conservative legal groups, political action committees, etc, and you will get a whole bunch of them. The ACLU is favored by the mainstream media, and that is why you hear so much about them. There are plenty of groups out there you just don'e hear about them. The American Center for Law and Justice comes to mind. We don't just sit and Bitch.
