MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- Police said a bomb squad blew up two suspicious devices at a high school in North Clackamas County Friday morning, the day after officials decided to close the school due to several bomb threats.
A robot was used to destroy the two devices just before 11 a.m., according to deputy Joel Manley with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
The North Clackamas School District put together a team of searchers and they found a backpack within the school building that was beeping every ten seconds, Manley said They also found another device that looks like a pipe bomb under the schools bleachers at the football field.
Once the two devices were disposed of, Manley said three bomb-sniffing dogs would do a more extensive search of the building and surrounding area, for more suspicious devices.
Rex Putnam is located at 4950 SE Roethe Road in Milwaukie, Ore. Its part of the North Clackamas School District.
The school superintendent told KGW Thursday night tha teachers and students would be asked to stay home Friday and authorities would search the school building. But he would not give any more information about the reported threats.
Threat Matrix ping.........
More activity folks. Kind of chilling after learning of the guy in Iraq w/ School Crisis plans.
Could be kids playing a sick joke, but no need to take chances. We are in a high threat time window.
Stay vigilant.
Or maybe it was just a backpack with an ordinary electronic device, and some sprinkler plumbing parts.
They don't bother to tell us what the devices turned out to be.
My cell phone beeps every 10-15 seconds if there was a call I didn't answer...
Last night's 10pm local news (Portland,Oregon) said the school would be closed today. Reason given was some building maintenance problem. Uh-huh.
Good list! Is there a "Threat Matrix Ping List?" I wouldn't mind being on it.
As reported by the Columbia Newsblaster...
Law enforcement officials in Portland, Ore., have charged a Lebanese man who apparently has links to a Middle Eastern terrorist group with felony weapons violations for allegedly lying about his criminal record when he tried to buy an assault rifle this year. Kroeker also said the suspect has told police he received training at Lebanese guerrilla camps, and that at the man's Portland home police found a plaque with the name " Hamas "? the guerrilla group that has been staging suicide bombings in Israel.
Police who arrested Ali Khaled Steitiye, 39, in late October said they found a small cache of weapons, as well as ammunition, fake credit cards, phony citizenship documents and $20,000 during searches of his apartment and vehicle.
Authorities found a plaque with the word " Hamas " and a calendar with Sept. 11 highlighted at the home of a Lebanese man arrested on a weapons charge, police said Tuesday.
