TIKRIT, Iraq- On 25 October, Soldiers from Team C, Task Force 1-18, with assistance of US Civilian Vanguard International Police Advisors began training Iraqi National Police on Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) skills in Tikrit. The training will teach the Iraqi Police the fundamentals of handling and firing their weapons. Captain Mustafa Ibrahim of the Tikrit Police said this training was well done and much needed by our officers. Clearly the Americans are showing their trust in us by training us. This training will help the Iraqi National Police better conduct their duties in the city as well as build a stronger sense of unity between the Iraqi National Police, Iraqi Military Forces and Coalition Forces. The Tikrit Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) assisted in conducting training. Task Force 1-18 recently trained the Tikrit ESU to assist the Tikrit Police with execution of high risk search warrants and arrests.
This training program is part of a larger initiative by Task Force 1-18 to reinforce the police in Tikrit. Future plans include the complete renovation of six local police stations. This is a Commanders Emergency Relief Project which is worth more than $800,000. Additionally, Task Force 1-18 recently purchased numerous hand radios and surveillance equipment worth more than $300,000 to enhance the operations of the Tikrit Police. (Submitted by TF 1-18) |
