If this story is true, it's outside pressure. By MLB, I would assume. They don't want 50% of their fan base turned off immediately after the most successful playoffs in some time. I can't say I blame them.
Much as I like the idea that Schilling's a conservative, he shouldn't be exploiting the Sox win any more than actors should be exploiting their careers to push Democrats.

"Actually, he dumped her."
---So, dumping her changes his politics?
Not at all! He even had a Red Sox shirt on when he was campaining for Kerry. Supposedly Katie was pressuring him to marry her.

Those are the words of a lawyer. Those may be the sentiments of a lawyer, but the phrase "not my place" reeks with irony. Some people will notice.

It sure seems like everyone else can voice their opinions, so what is the deal here.

Methinks the Red Sox management - not his doctors - put a fair amount of pressure on Curt to cancel his appearance with Bush. :-(
And Red Sox management may well be caving in to some Political powers above them, who would know? Owners? The Mayor? The Governor? Something like this!
Curt Schilling said what he did on nationwide TV; that's most effective when you boil it down to about anything he could do, maybe even this engagement he was suppose to be at.

Shows poor character if nothing else. I'm sorry Michelle, but poor character is over the line. You can criticize him for not understanding the union thuggery that would immediately be in motion but poor character is WAY over the line.
Do you think if he didn't feel strongly he wouldn't have found a way to get the comment into GMA?
Do you live in an area where threats to property, family, etc. are real?
Curt Schilling may be lacking in some things, character is certainly not one of them.

"I wonder who slapped him down. Those are not the words of a happy man."
Many (if not most) professional sports contracts have clauses in them forbidding the respective athlete under contract from making political pronouncements or endorsements. My gut says the BoSox management politely "reminded" Schilling of this after his endoresement of GWB.

Can the Red Sox or even Major League Baseball contracturally fobid his travel until he is "cleared?"
To: NittanyLion
he shouldn't be exploiting the Sox win any more than actors should be exploiting their careers to push Democrats. How about "any more than that poseur Kerry (whose favorite Red Sox BTW is "Manny Ortez") should be showing up in a Red Sox cap horning in on their glory"? Or "any more than Werner should be capitalizing on the Red Sox"?
Personally, I think Schilling was well within his rights.

Let the Red Sox fire him
Down here in Atlanta we need good pitchers.
To: RogerWilko
"To all of you folks who criticized me yesterday, our Union efforts here in Mass may have had some affect on Shilling's decision to "Bow Out" of his joint appearance with President A**hole. You see, his commercial endorsements as well as his charity are all centered where it will have the greatest affect, here in New England. Well, outside of NH, we are all deep blue, and NH is pale blue. We instantly had the AFL-CIO, as well as a rash of local unions complain about Curt's actions. This was not coordinated with the Kerry campaign, thereby leaving no downside to them. We did this on our own...."The last 2 sentences sound like total bs.
