By now we had hoped to be rid of Sen. Arlen Specter.
Unfortunately, Pat Toomey, the brave and conservative Lehigh Valley congressman we endorsed in the May primary, could not surgically remove our state's four-term cancer from the U.S. Senate.
We have the next-best thing to Mr. Toomey, however, in Constitution Party candidate Jim Clymer, a Lancaster lawyer who is as close to the kind of principled, small-government conservative Republican we can hope for in 2004.
Thus, we wholeheartedly endorse Jim Clymer for U.S. Senate.

Although a NRA Life member, I am livid they endorsed this RINO in PA. Toomey was a much better candidate.
So you'd like a Democrat-controlled Senate? I can understand not wanting to support a pro-choice liberalish (but not truly liberal) guy like Arlen, but when the pinch is on, he votes on the right side, and his vote keeps Frist in the leadership position. You have to understand that he has to represent the views of his constituents, and Pennsylvania is a swing state with a lot of Democrats. Sure, Santorum is far better, and has shown that a conservative can win a general election here, but you have to take what you can get. I'm voting for Arlen, not enthusiastically, but the Huffer is unacceptable and he will win if enough people follow your lead. Arlen won't live forever. But we'll live to see a better choice one day.

From what I hear Arlen is not helping Bush one iota and the Congressional candidates in eastern PA.
If Arlen won't help us we won't help him, I endorse you vote for Jim Clymer, Constitution party.
Specter will win, but he isn't getting my vote. I just moved to PA from Virginia, where I had real Republican senators. The Republicans will pick up two or three seats in the Senate, and without Specter the GOP caucus would be more conservative. Do you realize Specter will be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee?? With two and possible three Supreme Court Justice nominations to run? It makes me ill just thinking about it.

He won't win if enough Republicans abandon him. Do you really want a Democratic Senate? Or a minority Democrat senator with no clout? I have
to vote as a Republican first, a Pennsylvanian second and a conservative third. The first two trump the last.

I respect your view, and I understand it, but I'd really be surprised if Specter serves the full term anyway. I don't think there's much point in arguing because he's clearly going to win, as you or someone said. If you think you can risk a vote on principle, I admire that, but I would feel like I was throwing my vote away and possibly helping the Democrat.
If a Democrat is elected instead of Spectre, that's a 2 votes swing. This is Arlen's last election. Thank God. Next time we'll be able to run a more conservative senator. However, for now, we need him in there. With the next president about to nominate 2 to 3 justices, every vote counts.
Hold your nose and vote for Arlen. If he were running for governor, I'd have said vote against him (a terrible governor destroys the whole party of that state - notice IL). However, in the Senate, it has helped us greatly to have RINO's instead of Democrats in those states that lean Democrat.

Well, just when did John Warner become a "real" Republican senator? He voted to strike down Bill Clinton's impeachment. He also voted against the illustrious Pennsylvanian of the century, Judge Bork.
We don't miss RINOs, do we? What about John Chaffee? I can't even remember if his name has two "f's" or two "e's." And Lincoln Chaffee is equally a nonentity.
Actually, I going to use my magic vote. I will pull the lever for Spectre, but my vote is going to reverse itself in mid flight, and end up with Clymer.
Specter will still win but even if he doesn't I won't regret my vote.
I hated the SOB to begin with but now more than ever. Even after getting help from other republicans to defeat Toomey he won't return the favor and help some of the same republicans (like GWB!) that helped him.
I know everyone wants to hold their nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. But then you only get evil. Every election I hear - don't throw your vote away -principle is okay but we don't want a dem -or whatever the excuse de jour.
WE all complain government doesn't respond. How can it when we get less than principled people elected based on fear onf the lesser of two evils. Government lurches to the left a little more each time we fail to really do the right thing.
This is Specter's last campaign. The Democrat is younger and would have incumbency and it would very difficult for you to get rid of him if he wins.
It's been said numerous times and that portrayal of Specter's single bullet theory wasn't true the first time it was said and it still isn't true.
If you want to oppose Specter, at least be factual about it.
