That's a good article, farmfriend. I thought it would be about some dam-fool encroaching on the bears and then being horrified to find bruin on their porch, eyeing old Bowser one day-- but it was much more sublime than that.

snopercod & I were having a sort-of desultory conversation over here-

Civilization and Its Enemies - The Next Stage of History

-about lost rights and freedoms, and I mentioned that my Dad was born in 1890. When I was a kid, it amazed me to learn that he was a horseman ( besides being a sailor ) because back then, you walked, sailed, took a train- or rode a horse to go anywhere. We were so much freer then it's not funny.

I don't know how much- if any- freedom we can get back, but I'm actually somewhat encouraged when I talk to young folks my nieces' age- they seem to have a "keep yer hands off my dern money!" attitude which is a good start at rolling back the government.

I have to agree with rdb3 on that one, who was more free back then? Only some were free back then, not all. I hate the regulations we have today but I would not go back. We do need to move forward however and reign in some of the abuses our government is foisting on us.
