...In Republican circles, election-time complaints about the mainstream media are a time-honored tradition. Back in 1992, as Mr. Bush's father was going down to defeat, Republican leaders charged the press with pro-Clinton bias. Four years later, Republican nominee Bob Dole accused reporters of not devoting enough attention to President Clinton's ethics troubles. "Where's the outrage?" he asked. "Where's the media?"
The Kerry campaign has raised other complaints. Kerry aides loudly protested after Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. ordered its television affiliates to run a program that, among other things, questioned whether Mr. Kerry's antiwar activities during the Vietnam War conflict harmed prisoners of war. The program drew in part from a documentary critical of Mr. Kerry.
Democrats haven't complained as much about perceived bias in the mainstream media, but a recent spate of assertions that major news outlets have been insufficiently critical of the Bush administration is helping energize the Democratic base as well.
The Republicans' latest concerns over alleged bias are fueled in part by the decision by CBS News this fall to use dubious military documents in a story critical of Mr. Bush's National Guard service. Then came a memo by an editor at ABC News suggesting ABC doesn't have to "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable when the facts don't warrant that."
The memo was taken by many Bush aides as confirmation of a slant. An ABC executive said the memo has been quoted out of context, and wasn't meant to call for bias. Jeffrey Schneider, vice president of ABC News, said the editor who wrote the memo is "a dedicated and fair journalist...."
RNC officials began turning up the heat early this month, as polls showed a close race growing tighter:... "Matthews pinch-hits for Edwards and strikes out the truth."...

Yawn!!!!!!!!!!
Shouting their denials as they swirl down the bowl along with the other remnants of the flush.
It's "Circle the Wagons Day" at all the media outlets morning.
This morning they are all attempting to defend their absolutely abysmal coverage of this campaign. Does anyone know anything about Kerry's "PLAN," or anything about his Senate non-record, his trips to help the enemy?
Heck no. It's been a Kerry-fest to shape perception.
What did the editors and columnists do last night? Lounge on their bellies on their frilly little beds kicking their heels in the air while yacking to other editors and columnists?
The whole gaggle must have coordinated their stories this morning like junior high girls coordinating their outfits with friends for school the next day.
Louis XIV (The Sun King): "Apres moi, la deluge"
My hope (regarding MSM): "After Kerry, the flush"
I think the history written about this election as the emotion fades and the winner is remebered as a "President" and not a D or R, will be the roll the media and entertainment attempted to play in the election. I hope this history will include stories of CBS, CNN, MSNBC and the NYT collapsing in economic failure.
Has anyone noticed the incredible lack of coverage of a Democrat hack trying to run down Katherine Harris yesterday?
In Tampa, we have two liberal papers - the NYTimes wannabee the StPete Times and the Trib with its new, liberal editor. They are both burying the attack on their back pages.
If it had been a Democ candidate, like Betty Castor, being attacked by a Republican, it would be all over the front page.
WSJ has completely went to the left in their Section A stories, with the exception of their editorials, especially over the last several months. I guess I'll save the dollar I used to spend on it every morning.
Don't buy or read the POS. Period.
It made the campaign coverage section in the Washington Post Express (pg 3) today.
How the Old Media lost its relevance and how the New Media arrived just in time.
Our Florida papers ignored it. It's major news, attempted murder of a candidate by a member of the opposition.
I used to get the MSNBC "Question of the Day" quiz reminder.
Two days ago, I posted a comment to the effect of:
Why would anyone vote for a man who voted on whether to assassinate U.S. Senators? I said he might have voted no as he claims but he didn't report it to the FBI after the vote.
Since then, my responses are being rejected. I planned on continue to answer questions with Swift Vet questions, his 1971 testimony questions, his assassination plot questions.
Happening to anyone else?
My e-mails are also being returned. I haven't determined if it's temporary glitch, a changed address, or an attempt to deny access.
