One of the great powers of incumbent president running for re-election is the power of the office itself. Tied to that is the fact that he can call a press conference in his home and get the top journalists there on a moment's notice.
The NY TIMES weapons hit piece was phony. That is becoming clear. The president should hold a news conference immediately and call Kerry on the story.
He should note that, although the entire story is not yet known, all the evidence points to the fact that it was gone before our troops arrived. Kerry jumped the gun and did not have the facts. Particularly while we are at war, a commander in chief must do better than that.
Just like three decades ago, Kerry has turned on our troops. Bush should actually quote his words from before -- cutting off ears, cutting off heads, etc.
The president should say that the troops need total support if we are to win the war on terror. This nation does not need second guessing from a person who keeps changing his position depending on how the political wind blows.
Thread locked is typically because the story has been previously posted, and we should make our comments there.
I was thinking the same thing, Doug.
I said the same things a few days ago when I thought this story would just end up staliant, but now the media is going to eat on each other so there isn't much of a need to go all out. He may touch up on it a bit but thats all.
EXcellent point.
Oh...how sweet it would be!
You know, I've said for weeks that The Prez should hold a press conference and diffuse all the Dims lies. One example would be the lie about there is going to be a military draft in a Bush second term.
Why doesn't The Prez use the Bully-Pulpit of The Presidency; there are benefits of incumbency. C'mon Mr. President, take the gloves off. (See my tagline.)
on the other hand I think that at this point, the only one in America who believes in the story is Kerry.
I disagree. Let the sharks in the water take care of Kerry, aka the MSM. We'll all just sit back and watch.
Yeah, but who heard him say that? How many Americans saw it on TV or heard it on the radio.
Nothing carries the weight of a press conference for the Rose Garden or an address to the nation from the oval office.
Got it. That's the angle that I thought you were going for.
Agree!
I'm not sure that Bush should be the one to do it.
Certainly the rest of us should be getting the word out.
Yes BUT not invite the NYCrimes Or CBS to the Presser!
My opponent has been indicating throughout this campaign that he would be a President who governs by what the NY Times and CBS report. He holds up newspapers, and makes wild accusations for political gain, despite not knowing the facts and despite knowing that his words would have a negative impact on some of our troops - the few who might have given him their support. I once again call on Democrats and Republicans alike to vote for me on Nov. 2 - the stakes are too high and this country cannot afford to make a mistake.
---------------------------------
I think this would set Bush up very well to not only peel off more and more votes from democrats, it will also serve the very useful purpose of damaging the credibility of the Slimes and SeeBS.
I've said it before, and say it again. Despite all the talk about voter registrations, voter drives, the country being divided, Bush hating, blah blah blah - on Nov. 2 apathy is gonna kill Kerry. Although if he keeps his current act up, he might just ensure a Mondale-like total meltdown.
That is a good idea. No NY TIMES and no CBS.
Good statement.
