MISSING EXPLOSIVES
No Check of Bunker, Unit Commander Says
By JIM DWYER and DAVID E. SANGER
-snip-
Colonel Anderson, who is now the chief of staff for the 101st and spoke by telephone from Fort Campbell, Ky., said that he did not see any obvious signs of damage when he arrived on April 10, but that his focus was strictly on finding a secure place to collect his troops, who were driving and flying north from Karbala.
"There was no sign of looting here," Colonel Anderson said. "Looting was going on in Baghdad, and we were rushing on to Baghdad. We were marshaling in."
So, is this the equivalent of the NYT's giving the "Viet Cong" a forum?
I would question the allegiance of these "Iraqi's".
" that once troops left the base itself, people streamed in to steal computers and anything else of value from the offices. They also took munitions like artillery shells, he said. "
Given the choice, would looters take a box of unknown white powder or something tangible that they could sell or use ?
Logic, common sense, decency and two working neurons dictate the latter.
Kerry believes the former and also, that smiling US soldiers helped terrorists load their pick ups and probably demanded a tip.
Looks like NYT is trying to cover their butts now. If this continues, it will the equivalent of Bush's DUI report right before the 2000 elections, only worse.
Only the NYT could spin a 101st battle VICTORY into inducing the Iraqi forces . .
ROFL !!!!!!!!
You didn't get to be a Chemical engineer in Traq unless you were a loyal Baathist. And I can guarantee you that you didn't get a job at this top secret facility unless your loyalty to Saddam was pretty certain.
They are just dragging up any nonsense they can find now. I sure hope there is a big backlash against the MSM after this election.
Three Iraq's carried off 380 TONS of explosive??????
Spare me, oh Lord.
Could someone calculate how many camels it would take to spirit away 380 tons of anything?

This was planned to the tee.
All they wanted was a HEADLINE! Kerry, the UN, CBS, and the NYT JUST WANTED THE HEADLINE!
CBS decided not to go with the story because they had NO DATE, NO IDEA at all if the Military had found weapons, and left them exposed, or if the just neglected to search and left them to be looted, or if they were gone before the war.
So the NYT ran it, Kerry and his PR team the MSM repeated it, Bush and the military could not comment, THEY DON'T HAVE FACTS, AND ONLY BUSH IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE FACTS, NOT KERRY.
The entire story is too hard for the public to figure out this late in the game.
Kerry will not be called on it, because AS THE ABC MEMO SAID, THIS CAMPAIGN IS NOT ABOUT KERRY.
We were had.
God help us.
They should report all relevant evidence, not just what supports their anti-Bush, anti-troop spin.
No doubt sadaam loyalist. I am certain they got viet cong to confirm this to make sure it was true.

Excuse me .. we all know there are some Iraqi's who would be willing to lie for money. I'm not buying this looting stuff unless it's about munitions .. and not the explosives.
IIRC the explosives would be useless without a trigger and a delivery system.
If we are to believe this NYTimes story, If there was looting, then the looters must have taken the really big bombs. Pathetic the leaps the New York Times expects its readers to make.
Looters do not make off with 380 tons of explosives. The NYT is reaching to make this stick. It ain't gonna happen fellas. Give it up!
The place was crawling with our troops how in the sam hill did they miss 1000's of looters???? </scarsam>
The Times is really desperate to fabricate a story, aren't they?
On second thought, let their (NYT) credibility go south along with their ad revenue.
