ABC News - IAEA Says only 3 tons of high explosives left at Al QaQuaa when last checked
ABC World News Tonight | 10/27/2004 | Martha Radditz

Posted on 10/27/2004 4:18:45 PM PDT by hadrian

I looked to see if anyone else had posted this - I apologize if I missed it - about 8 minutes into ABC World News Tonight, Martha Radditz ended up her report on the missing explosives with words to this effect:

Peter, late breaking information from IAEA is that when they last inspected the Al QAQaa facility in (January? March?) 2003, there were not 180 tons of high explosives, but only 3 tons.

She did qualify that I think by stating a particular type of high explosive - either MX(?) or the other of the two types, but whatever it was, sounds like there might have been a lot less left to be "missing" at any time the US forces could have been there.

Healthy AND ESSENTIAL scepticism will treat this thread as bogus, UNTIL VERIFIED!

If this story runs uncontrolled across the web (may have already), Freepers will be as damaged as Dan Rather.

Show restraint!

There was a report earlier (yesterday) that the IAEA said that a fraction of the 380 ( I think it was 30-40 tons) was missing earlier and the Saddam people explained it by saying that it was being used for legitimate mining and quarrying activity.

Maybe Martha was talking about that. Which makes me wonder how good the "seals" were on those bunkers.

I may be wrong but it sounds to me this is a reduction from 180 to 3 of a particular type. Sounds like we are still in a wait and see about the 200 tons of other explosives to total 380.

Either way it makes the MSM look stupid.

You Pubbies have got to stop planting these nasty, false stories with the MSM & Kedwards Campaign. It makes us look stoopid when those ignorant FReepers and jammie-clad bloogers then blow them out of the water. Just because Al invented the Internet, doesn't mean we know how to use it effectively. That just isn't FAIR! If this keeps up, I'm going to sue that eviiil djinnyus, Karl Rove, for picking on us.

Respectfully,
John Edwards

"... February: IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei tells the United Nations that Iraq has declared that "HMX previously under IAEA seal had been transferred for use in the production of industrial explosives." This apparently didn't include the HMX that remained under seal at Al-Qaqaa..."

Maybe this is what you heard, partly.

Free Republic does not recognize systems based on French thinking.

Metric is a French based measurement system.

A metric ton is 1.1 times a standard ton. Do the math.

That's possibly what it sounded like to me too - again, this was really a one-line reference without many details. I appreciate any news from people who might be watching it out West

I never watch ABC, I was mistaken. It comes on at 1730.

The local news is on now.

That's funny. I remember when Dan Rather was due to give his mea culpa I decided to watch CBS. But I didn't even know what channel it was on. I had to look it up in the paper.

Rush records everything. Could we persuade him to check it early and yield it up?

Don't expect the NYT to apologize. They have already have cried a bucket over how they are so ashamed they let Judith Miller just go and publish all that WMD stuff...before they knew the truth...before they...didn't...but now they do...I think.

I really have a headache.

Did anyone ever ask Al Gore just how big his lockbox was??

I think the CIA is looking at satellite photos of the lockbox.

That is a really interesting question. We should take the war to the MSM cabal after the election. Why not setup a battle plan post for action after the election? I would relish this, just relish it!!!
