Rebel Dem Sen. Miller backs Bush in Scranton
Times Leader ^ | Oct. 27, 2004

SCRANTON - U.S. Sen. Zell Miller, D-Georgia, who is backing GOP President Bush, appealed to about 200 supporters at a morning rally in Scranton. Miller, who gave the keynote speech at the National Republican Convention this summer, touched on socially conservative issues such as supporting gun rights and tax cuts but opposing abortion and flag-burning.

"I have never seen a presidential candidate of either party who was as far out of touch, who was as far out of the mainstream with the average American, as is John Kerry," Miller said. "There is a huge gap between what this man thinks and what you and I think. He's out there in the land of Oz."

Residents of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre said they expect the Nov. 2 election to split the region between Bush and Kerry.

In Scranton, city Democratic Committeewoman Ann Marie Gowarty said she plans to vote for the Republican - even if it means resigning from her party post.

"John Kerry is running with a lot of bad issues, and I have to vote with the issues," said Gowarty, 56. "I've been a Democrat all my life, but this election has been the biggest decision-maker for me. My whole family is Democrat, but just talking to them about the issues - abortion, the war in Iraq - we have to support our president."

Strong points made in clear, simple language, delivered firm and confidently. Zell does a great job.

Hey cool. I lived up there when I was 16. First time away from home and I worked in a chocolate factory called Eddyleon's. Hated the area though. Was too used to the parallel roads in Florida. It's all windy curves up there :(

It boggles the mind that Zell and Carter were both governors of Georgia.

"It boggles the mind that Zell and Carter were both governors of Georgia."

But it sure helps explain why Zell is over on our side now.

Yes it is windy curvy, for that matter the whole NE is that way. It seems we have no direct route from anyplace, to anywhere.

You gotta love Zell, I wish he would come out and say, John Kerry fought in the War against Viet Nam before he was against it.

Yet he is consistent on one thing, he shamed our soldiers then, and he is doing it now. He conspired with the enemy then, and he's doing it now. He was an anti American war protester in his youth, and he is an anti war protester now! We need a Commander in Chief in the White House, NOT an anti war Protester! Zell could really slam that statement HOME!!!

I was thinking last night that the Lord works in mysterious ways. We were deeply saddened when Sen Coverdell died 4 years ago and was replaced with Miller. We wish Coverdell had lived but since he passed away, at least some good came of it. We got Sen Miller on our side and he just might help tip the election to GWB.
