BLACK GROUP SLAMS “P. DIDDY” VOTER DRIVE

Rev. Peterson Charges “Vote or Die” Campaign With Scaring Blacks

Los Angeles--Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, and organizer of The ‘Black’ List Campaign, today accused rap mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and his nonprofit organization Citizen Change of using a scare campaign to get blacks to vote against President George W. Bush on November 2nd. Citizen Change, with its “Vote or Die” slogan, is conducting a three-day “get-out-the-vote” initiative geared towards minority voters in swing states. The tour began Tuesday, and will cover Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Miami.

Rev. Peterson said: “P. Diddy Combs and his Citizen Change group are a disgrace. Their ‘Vote or Die’ campaign is an effort to scare and manipulate blacks into voting for John Kerry. Most of these so-called ‘disenfranchised’ people don’t care about the issues. All they know is what they’ve been told: Bush is evil. Bush hates blacks. He’s [Bush] going to bring back the draft—and you [blacks] have to vote or you’ll die!”

Combs started Citizen Change earlier this year saying he wanted to register thousands of minority voters who aren’t being heard by politicians. The group claims to be nonpartisan, but in February of 2004, AllHipHop.com reported that P. Diddy wants American voters to turn out in full force this year and remove president George W. Bush from the oval office. According to the report, Diddy said: "[We gotta] get Bush's a** up out that office…"

Rev. Peterson added: “If all Combs wants to do is register voters, then why the emphasis on the swing states? This is why I started The ‘Black’ List Campaign—to expose the lies of Hollywood’s most anti-American black entertainers; and P. Diddy is on that list. This election is very important, please don’t let P. Diddy or Jesse Jackson tell you how to vote.”

You got that right. Anyone who believe he's "nonpartisan" is either lying through their teeth or is brain-dead. Just like MTV's "Rock the Vote"--I remember them back in '92 creaming their panties over Clinton. I was 17 at the time and had no interest in politics, but at the time thought it a bit disconcerting how they were whoring for Clinton. Sheesh, talk about transparent.

All these celebrities that are running this political slogan stumping (almost exclusively pro-Kerry) are just using it as an excuse to bring attention to themselves and advance their career (through aforementioned attention or ingraciating themselves to those on the inside with the power).

Of course, maybe I'm just cynical but "Eminem" and "PDiddy" don't strike me as the type debating the last issue of the Economist. :)

Combs was charged with gun possession and bribery. He was at Club New York, near Times Square, on the night of December 17, 1999, when shots were fired and three people were injured. When Combs was arrested after a short police chase, a 9mm handgun was found in his Lincoln Navigator.

Prosecutors said Combs was in possession of a gun and offered the driver of his car a bribe to say the pistol was his.

Combs and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez were arrested before dawn Monday after a gun was found in a gray Lincoln Navigator owned by Combs following an early morning shooting at a nightclub where the couple had gone together, police said.

Three people were wounded in the 2 a.m. shooting in a trendy Times Square nightspot, the Club New York. Police said the shots were fired by a 19-year-old man who was later charged with attempted murder.

Minutes after the shooting, police spokesman Sean Crowley said, officers saw the sport utility vehicle carrying Combs and Lopez and two other men run at least one red light before officers stopped and searched the SUV.

"There was a pistol on the right front seat -- none of the occupants claimed ownership of it," said New York Police Commissioner Howard Safir. "They were all arrested for possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property."

How many elections will go by, until the african americans figure out that the dems dont care about them. How many times can they be fooled and used, and believe the same old lines? The dems keep making the same promises to them every election. What makes them think this year it will be any different?I ask again how many times can you promise something and not do it,and continue to get away with .If Slick Willy didnt fufilled his promises in 8 yrs, what makes them think Kerry will.Am i missing something here?

Combs is looking beyond this election. He told Bill O that they may not make a difference this election but they could in four years. What do you think this means?

That Combs ran out of material to hijack from other musicians and now is seeking to promote voter awareness to keep his name in the news, lest he become the next MC Hammer? :)
