ALLERCA Inc. today launched a project to produce the world's first hypoallergenic cats. The hypoallergenic cats produced by ALLERCA will allow consumers to enjoy the love and companionship of a pet without the cost, inconvenience, risk, and limited effectiveness of current allergy treatments. Clients will take delivery of the first ALLERCA kittens in 2007. The hypoallergenic cat is the first of a planned series of lifestyle pets that ALLERCA will develop over the next few years.
ALLERCA's hypoallergenic cats will be a significant new alternative to the traditional treatment of cat allergies given that it eliminates the allergen at its source. Researchers will use patented biotechnology to suppress the allergen-producing gene in cats. For the first time, people who have been unable to own a cat because of their allergies will be able to have a pet of their own without the associated risks and costs of allergy treatments. The potential health benefits are also far-reaching. Treatment of cat allergies is currently a multi-billion-dollar industry, and approximately 10% of the country, or 27 million Americans, have cat allergies. Cat allergen is one of the three major risk factors for developing childhood allergies, asthma, and other respiratory diseases that are becoming a serious public health issue.
The response from animal lovers to ALLERCA's hypoallergenic cat project has been overwhelmingly positive. The company has received thousands of inquiries from the USA, Japan and Europe and already maintains a wait list. With the launch of the project, ALLERCA has implemented a web-based reservation system for those who want to be first to own and enjoy an ALLERCA hypoallergenic cat.

Oh, good. A cat I can blow my nose on with no irritation.
This is what you need!!
Are they bald cats?
the law of unintended consequences are not going to be nice to these people
All that said, after feeding our cat Friskies Seafood Swill, next comes her trip to the litterbox...that'll make your eyes water.
This piece has the feel of the beginning of some horror movie.
Hmmmm: a cat which does not offend the sinuses but morphs into an Alien with acidic blood and a habit of layng eggs near nuclear reactors....
Now here's news you can use. You never know what will scroll up on FR. Wonder what this genetic engineering will do to their temperaments? Almost afraid to find out! How do you ping the Viking Kitties?
This reminds me A LOT of "Re-pet" in the Schwartzenegger movie "The Sixth Day"!
Cats: God's Mobile Target System
LOL. But no doubt they will be able to fix that too, and the cat will pee rosewater.
Wonder how they are going to do this.
Speaking of German Shepherds...Last month my wife asked me to take the cat to the vet. My car was in the shop so I used my teenaged daughters VW Cabrolet. So I'm at a stoplight with the cat in the car when a large chevy pickup pulls up next to me and it has two german shepherds in the back. For a moment...I felt like an interior decorator.
LOL. I'll bet those German Shepherds were beautiful.
Have a friend who has a Sphnyx cat. Myself and others who are very cat allergic, who com ein contact with it rearely if ever have even the slightest allergic reaction. As far as catss go, being a dog person, it's a really good playful cat too.
This will be good news for my dog, who hasn't enjoyed a cat in years.
Unfortunately I since comforted myself by buying a dog, and it's the sort of dog who would never let a kitten live.
