Remember that dinner where Brokaw defended Rather? Well, something else happended then. A major tribute to David Bloom.
I believe that the NBC experience of embedded reporting, combined with the tragic death of David Bloom, gave some in the NBC newsroom a certain respect for the military. When they saw NYT/CBS lying about an event that their own embedded reporters had witnessed, their honor and memory of Bloom could not let it stand.
At the October 4th Radio-Television News Directors Association Awards dinner Tom Brokaw was the keynote speaker at an event that gave heavy honors and a Murrow award to Bloom. Brokaw also seems to have more respect for veterans and the military than the other anchors.
We shouldn't get too excited, but for at least this moment we should be grateful for NBC's courage.

Whatever it was, I'm glad they came forward. But I hope they don't change their story under pressure from the rest of the MSM.
nbc also covered the cbs memogate flap.
The MSM will choose to go after each other if they can gain from it.
Just called and sent this via email to the following addresses at the NYT:
executive-editor@nytimes.com
managing-editor@nytimes.com
public@nytimes.com
They're lightening up on that "bust" now - saying it's "unclear" if the weapons were there or not - we may just have not looked hard enough.
iNTERESTING THEORY.
Whatever...
David Bloom
Born: 22-May-1963
Died: 6-Apr-2003
Rest in Peace.
nbc has moved to the bottom of my sh!tlist. they actualy may be getting it. but momentum is hard to shift
Perhaps -- but I would have expected that in the final days before the election they would have stayed together to defeat Bush...
May be the first step toward redemption by NBC.
Where's Hans Blix when you really need him?
Calling Inspector Clouseau(sic)?
Nope. Solidarity doesn't matter. Ratings do. On minor things, they'll let it slide. But when it comes to a chance to expose their competition, and drive what dwindling viewers their are back to their stations, they'll jump at the chance.
I agree. NBC has some integrity and David Bloom was part of that. It's disgraceful that CBS and the NYT come up with this made-up stuff over a year later.
I, for one, believe that the story from NBC has been -- to their great dismay -- misunderstood by us conservatives. We've taken it as a cue that the explosives were already gone, but I don't think that is what NBC meant to convey. They are trying hard to get it back under control. The imbedded reporter was on MSNBC this a.m. saying that they were not there to guard the weapons and that there weapons "lying all over the place" and that there was not really a search. (As if she would know what every single member of the unit was doing..) She was making the whole thing sound like no one was much interested in the weapons cache.
Mr. Magoo.
NO!!! They are overwhelmed with their hate for President Bush.
Don't worry, they will quickly go back to the MSM fold.
