Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.
NBC News: Miklaszewski: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq.” (NBC’s “Nightly News,” 10/25/04)
If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.
Dang!!! He looks like someone told him sKerry had a chance to be elected! He is morphing into Jimmy Carter.

I was talking with a relative of mine this morning who beleived the story. He started wondering what was going on in Iraq. How could they let the stuff get stolen? He thought it happened this week.
President Bush and talk radio better get to work to clear up this latest lie.
On the positive side, it does call attention to the fact that Saddam did have weapons and the UN is useless.
Makes me wonder- there was a NY Times paper dumped in the middle of our roadway [maybe they only thought there was one house here] and someone had graciously added a bunch of beer cans as well. This area is semi-rural Republican FL and now that I think about it, no one around here reads the Times. I'm POed because the slobs dumped that garbage there- it's rare there is any kind of garbage lying about out here to pick up. I'd have used it for my birdcages but it was already soaked from the rain this morning.
I hope you are right. I've been wound tighter than a one ton tick lately. I snarl at the slightest movement.:-)

Just a thought...but since these weapons are needed or essential for a nuclear weapon...will they try to make the connection? Where are these weapons? How do we know they existed? Can we be SURE the UN didn't lie to us about WMD and nuclear capabilities? Just too much missing information. Looks more and more like WMD may have well been there but the UN and the oil for food disgraceful nations have covered it up really well?
