It Cost $40 (Fourty Dollars) To Vote in the U.S. Elections

Posted on 10/25/2004 5:26:17 AM PDT by Jmouse007

As a memeber of FR I felt it important to share the following, please feel free to pass it along.

I am working as a teacher in the Ukraine for three months as a seminary professor at several evangelical seminaries here. I have been doing this since 1994. As an American citizen I applied for my absentee ballot so I could vote in the presidential election. Well, my absentee ballot arrived this Saturday (21 days after it was mailed from my home town in New Hampshire). I filled it out and after teaching class today I went to the Ukrainian equivalent of UPS and mailed it out (it will take between 3 to 7 days, 4 days being the usual length of time before delivery) Anyway, it was the only way I could make sure the ballot got to my Town Hall in New Hampshire by November 2nd. The cost for this one letter was $40 U.S., that is right...$40, for one... small... letter. That is about a quarter to a third of a months average wages here. One of my students from the seminary who speaks some English accompanied the founder of the seminary and me. It was an tremendous object lesson for them regarding the importance of voting. I explained that although it was VERY expensive (literally the most I have ever spent to mail one letter, and as a missionary, it was a sacrifice), the election in America was vitally important to the security of America and the world. This made a tremendous impact because they saw first hand how important it is to vote, even if it proves costly. They asked me who I voted for and without reservation I said "President George Bush". I went on to explain to them the importance of Christians voting for candidates who support Biblical principles because one day God will hold us accountable for who and what we vote for. I shared with them that as a Christian I could not in all good conscience vote for Mr. Kerry because of his and his Party's stand on abortion, national defense, the defense of marriage and their support for homosexuality and socialist policies.

There is an important election here in the Ukraine on October 31st, please be praying that God would have mercy upon the Ukraine as they pick their future president.

The current administration in the Ukraine is rife with corruption and the president has chosen and is pushing a candidate to be his successor (also supported by Putin). He has been in prison 2 or 3 times in the past! Needless to say, I support the other candidate, a man by the name of Yuschenko.

Friends and fellow Freepers, voting cost me $40 today but it was well worth it to support a man for President who has a genuine concern for the welfare and safety of the people of America and who loves Christ and is not afraid to name the name of Jesus before men.

Please make every effort to vote on November 2nd because this election will decide the future of America for the next 4 years and maybe longer. Your vote is vitally important and IT COUNTS!

Great story... I've been following the Ukrainian election, and I know that we have been a beacon to them at times as well...

Ukraine has been a nutty country with us and the WOT... Sometimes they back us; other times they sell weapons to our enemies.

Well, God help us both! And our elections!

There is NO excuse for Christians in the United States NOT to vote. And God will hold so-called "Christians" accountable if they vote for Kerry, a man who supports the very things the Word of God abhors.

Anyone who does not think they will be held accountable or does not what to 'force their beliefs on others' is not a Christian.

If he was imprisoned by a former communist regime that might mean that he's a good guy...was his crime political?

Yea but up in Chicago, Democrats are required to vote over and over adding up to hundreds of dollars per election cycle.

No, not your garden variety, he is slick... running for president and supported by the current president of the Ukraine.

To quote Allan Rickman from Die Hard:

"I am not just a theif, I am an EXCEPTIONAL theif and since I am moving up to kidnapping you should show me some respect."

This guy is an EXCEPTIONAL bad guy.
