The Kerry campaign is calling on a heavy hitter from its bench: Former President Bill Clinton plans to hit the trail for the Democratic presidential hopeful Monday in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.
"I'm going out tomorrow," Clinton told ABC News' Diane Sawyer today in an exclusive interview airing today on "World News Tonight," Monday on "Good Morning America," and Thursday on "Primetime."
Both campaigns are relying on star power in the final days. The Bush campaign has California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger stumping for the president in Ohio this week.
Clinton, who recently had heart bypass surgery, said he did not want to miss the chance to weigh in before Election Day on Nov. 2.
"I want to do this," he said. "Sen. Kerry asked me to do it. And I want to do it because it's close, and because I think it's important, and because the differences between the two candidates and the courses they will pursue in the next four years are so profound."
Health Risk? Clinton does not believe he is putting his health at risk by campaigning.
"I talked to my doctors about it and they made some very helpful suggestions," he said. "They said, you know, I should get wherever I'm going early in case I'm tired, so I can kind of regenerate."
Both Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, agree the former president's appearances should be limited.
"She didn't want me to do too much, and I don't either," Clinton said. "I think there would be a point of diminishing returns. I think, you know, there's only so much anyone else can do in a campaign that he or she is not the candidate in."

I always knew Bubba would wind up belting Hillary in the chops, one day!
I tend to agree with those who say Clinton sucks the oxygen out of a room destroying any living thing within it.
LOL. Clinton knows Kerry is a dud and he's already distancing himself from him before he even begins stumping for him.
This is nothing more that more Krinton masturbation. He has to be the hero, somehow.
Man... the dems are getting organized.
WE NEED A SCANDAL, FAST, PEOPLE.
Get your thinking caps on.
The Hildabeast hitting the grapes and gin recipe a bit too hard?
I would love it if Big Bill would show up as a rally with Kerry walk out on stage and say: "I am endorsing George Bush for President in 2004 and Hillary for President in 2008."
Rosie O was only drawing about 30 people. Maybe Clintoon will double that.
It's official: sKerry is toast.
But a newscaster said today that bILLclinton is more popular now than he was in 2000.
an unpleasant word-picture.
Klinton is walking scandal.
Kerry is the walking dead.
there ya' go.
Bubba is pure gold for himself and pure dross for others. Imagine how lifeless Kerry looks next to even an emasculated Clinton. Kind of less than inspirational, you know?
And that is exactly the problem. Bill Clinton's popularity helps Bill Clinton and nobody else.
Bubba knows it's too late for Frenchie; he's seen the internals. However, he makes an appearance for the lemmings to "help" Kerry, and all is forgiven.
If only Bill had only helped Johnny earlier!
"I'm going out tomorrow," Clinton told ABC News...
That could be some boy-on-boy action - no?
Hey Bill - break a leg!
