LOS ANGELES Movie-goers have no grudges against Sarah Michelle Gellar (search). But they apparently have a beef with Ben Affleck (search).
Gellar's fright flick "The Grudge" got a jump on Halloween with a $40 million opening weekend to debut at No. 1, while Affleck delivered a holiday turkey on "Surviving Christmas," his critically drubbed comedy coming in at No. 7 with just $4.5 million.
The animated "Shark Tale," the top movie for three straight weekends, slipped to second place with $14.3 million, lifting its total to $136.9 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

I did a brief analysis of his most recent films a few months ago. When you count in production, marketing and distribution costs, nearly everything in recent memory has been a money loser. The only thing that came close was daredevil, but that had the built in comic book market.
I watched the Japanese version of "Grudge" 2 years ago and it sucked. The ending simply made me go Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh? This crappy movie rode on the coattails of "The Ring" and the same director was used (Shimizu). Someone should have told him he could have made his movie more interesting.
Paycheck sucked, too.
Ummm, I hate to break it to you, but Open Range sucked.
Ed Begley and his car powered by his own satisfaction. Has nothing to do with this article topic, but I LOVE that Simpson episode of do-good whimps.
He has reprised his role of Matt Murdock in the upcoming "Electra" and seems to work as much as he wants to. Like it or not, he is still huge box office.
I heard its been sitting on the shelf for over a year
Buffy is available on CDs. I'm sorry to hear the movie isn't up to her talents.
I thought Open Range was a good film. Not a great one, but pretty damn good.
Don't. She has taken many voice parts and invested her earnings wisely, while giving several excellent performances in otherwise mediocre movies. She's got it made.
Matt Damon
Neither do I. She isn't paid to think. Neither is Ben. If he were, he'd be homeless.
I actually enjoyed The Grudge. It wasn't scary but it was un-nerving and Sarah did just fine in it. Was it the quality of her performances in early BUFFY(S1-3). no, hardly...but the material itself was no where near as strong. It was however the best acting she's done since S5 of BUFFY and before that show found a hole and fell into it(S6-7 were two of the worst seasons of any TV show that I ever seen). Gellar is an acting waiting to show her talents again and break out...a strong performance by this film should hopefully allow her that opportunity.
Even Jennifer Garner was uninteresting. Ben was as wooden as ever, more even than Matt Damon in Team America.
As far as Daredevil is concerned, for a long time Marvel fan like me, it was fun.
I never even heard of Paycheck and DareDevil was a box office bomb in that it never lived up to expectations.
Daredevil made over $102 million. Sounds like a profitable picture to me.
