Bumping your thread. Let's see...it's 8:00 on the east coast so it's 6:00 out there. What time was the event over?

Was at the Sheraton Old Town in ALB on Friday for a Kerry daughter event. There were about 40 people there total and they were all rich white old folks. Not too much enthusiasm.

In ALB, the students/commies have been organizing next to UNM this weekend to knock on doors. About 100 turned out.

In Santa Fe, there is a very concerted effort to get Kerry yard signs everywhere. But considering the demographics of being in Santa Fe (Think Aspen with desert), Kerry placards and bumper stickers only outnumbered Bush/Cheney by about 4-1. This is actually not very much considering that even in the Plaza, where all the 'artists' hang out, there should be about 8 to 1 Kerry support to balance against the suburg and rural vote which is much larger and will go overwhelmingly to Bush.

Also just a note that it appears that there is almost no visible support for Kerry on the streets anywhere in Northern Arizona. Its not much of a surprise, but it would have been if there had been some measurable public support.

While we know what we are doing, its not bad to know what they are doing too. They are loud and obnoxious (like printing posters with Bush's face superimposed over Bin Laden and a TERRORIST label) but they aren't that deep in support.

I know if we work hard we'll make a difference. NM was a wisker away from being red last election

Working at the office this afternoon located in a not well-to-do area of Hobbs. Walked my new puppy and saw a yard with Bush-Cheney signs (lots of them around, about 8-1 Bush to Kerry) and one Kerry sign. The yard with the Bush-Cheney sign was well groomed and the lawn recently mowed. The yard with the Kerry sign (across the street from this yard) had a stripped down car in the driveway, the yard was full of weeds and a mean looking pit bull was trying to get at my dog.

That tell you anything???

Checked the Las Cruces paper and they estimate about 17,000 for SKerry. By way of contrast, Hobbs where the President visited two weeks ago also had an estimated crowd of 17,000. However, the population of Hobbs is only 28,000 while that of Las Cruces is 75,000 and is the site of NM State University. That tell you something??

Here are a couple of pics from the Scarey Kerry rally. More can be found at the link below:

President Bush supporters let their voices be heard at the campaign rally where U.S. Sen John Kerry, D-Mass., spoke Saturday at the Las Cruces Public Schools Sports Complex.

According to the Las Cruces paper, President Bush didn't start speaking until 3:50 p.m. MDT. That means it was probably 4:30 or so when he finished. Traffic leaving these rallies is jammed so don't expect any report until about now.

It's odd that Bush has to make no campaign appearances in TX but must spend countless days in NM -- it's all because of the electoral college. It surely affects methods and focus of campaigns. Those five electoral votes could make the difference, but I suspect that won't.

It may be that the large Democrat organization in El Paso bussed quite a few of those 17,000 people to Las Cruces. They're only, what, 60 miles apart?

What worries me about NM is that the Republican strongholds are in the lesser-populated southern part of the state. The Udall northern House district is likely to go 2/3-plus for KerryEdwards.
