His ceremony installing him as a Cardinal was on the date of my wedding. I worked in the Archdiocese of Washingont under Cardinal Hickey for many years until I started raising a family. He was a good man.

When I learned this morning of the Cardinal's death I thought about the image of the Catholic Church. It has really taken some hits in recent years and they are in need of a shift of perceptions. Can you imagine how poorly John Kerry's "BRAND" Catholicism would reflect on the Catholic Church if he were President and it was on display for the world to see in great detail.

Cardinal Hickey was a steadfast Roman Catholic priest who in my view was kind to everyone. I remember working at the time during the Bishop Marino saga and it was horrible but I will further share that if that Bishop ever returned to Washington he would have been forgiven and accepted back. He was a kind gentle soul and the woman in question has quite a history. There are many who do not believe that a relationship ever happened.
