Will they send me to a place where I can really make a difference? I'm not needed here in my area - and that's a fact. But if they are sending people to do poll watching or after campaign work in a state where it will make difference, I'm in...

Are they sending troops to battleground states?

Sounds like good intentions - don't let them drop. You are needed somewhere. Please call local GOP or national GOP. OK? Maybe you will inspire some others to do the same. Every soldier counts.

I'm not quite sure where the current need lies, but I'm guessing you'll be shipped to where you'll do the most good. Heck, I'd hope they wouldn't be sending volunteers to Idaho to help out Senator Mike Crapo with his re-election. Although with Hawaii now being in play for Bush, that'd be great to luck out and get sent there.

Back on topic, it sounds like they are serious about funneling people into the hot spots. And as it stands now, any Presidential battleground state is a hot spot (anyone else getting a bit nervous about the latest headlines/polls?). Here's a couple statements from the http://72hour.com FAQ:

· How will I get to my state and where will I be staying?
You have been assigned to a specific county and city. Once you return the attached form, we will make your airline, hotel and, in some cases, rental car reservations for you.

· Am I working for the Bush campaign or the RNC?
You are working as a volunteer for the RNC and your efforts will be focused on reelecting our Republican team.

It's getting kinda late in the game and I'm not sure if they're still taking volunteers through this website (since they would need to assess need and make arrangements for you), but I encourage you (and anyone else with the time or the passion) to contact the 72 hour program (or any RNC office) and bust some tail in the coming week.

I just get this sick feeling in my stomach, as TV and Radio conservatives exude confidence in a Bush win, that it's taking some of the edge of the urgency that's needed to get people to the polls. They should be pumping people up, and not telling them to relax.
