RALEIGH, N.C., Republican leaders here are working feverishly to take a Senate seat away from the Democrats by electing Rep. Richard M. Burr, who faces Democrat Erskine Bowles in a tight race that is key to determining which party will control the Senate. "North Carolina needs him in the United States Senate," former Sen. Jesse Helms told a cheering crowd at a Tuesday night Republican rally that drew 3,000-plus to a tobacco warehouse in the rural community of Smithfield.
Most polls show the two candidates neck-and-neck a Mason-Dixon poll released this week has the race tied at 45 percent each, with 10 percent undecided. By all accounts, the race for the seat being vacated by Democratic vice-presidential candidate John Edwards will be a nail-biter.

How many of these "THIS race is the one that will decide it all in the Senate" are we going to see???
Almost as many as "______ is the key state for winning the presidency."
Well they could all be key. But this one is key to me. Beating back a Clintonista to take over the seat exited by Senator Gone, that would be pretty sweet.
Erskine Bowles prostituted himself for clinton. But he may still have a reputation in North Carolina.
The poll that Fagan cites is almost the only one of the NC polls that does not show Burr two to four points ahead. A subsequent Rasmussen poll shows Burr two up.

Those are the three or so most recent polls. The ones that have scrolled off are similar. Bowles has benefited from enormous sums of money thanks to being a member of the selfsame Clinton crime family which controls the DNC and its shadowy sources of money. This is a member of the administration whose nonfeasance and cupidity delivered us to 9/11. So it's real important for "all y'all" tarheels to get out and vote.
You know the College Democrats will be voting early and often.

Well, Karen and I did our due diligence last Wednesday.
What Bowles had was name recognition. Burr has been targeting him in ads, connecting him with Clinton and Kerry's tax hikes and weak defense. Another effective tactic would be some of Burr's campaign lines from the article, giving Bush power in the Senate.
I'm disappointed that more ads don't point out the drag Edwards was in the Judiciary Committee and the Dems' blockade of Bush's appointees. If we get Bowles, it'll be more of the same.
Bowles is trying to paint himself as an "independent", telling voters that Clinton is not running for the Senate.
"North Carolina needs him in the United States Senate," former Sen. Jesse Helms
Well Senator, he couldn't do much worse than the other Republican one we've got. When Jesse Helms left Washington DC, representation for North Carolina in the Senate left with him
I was at the Smithfield rally mentioned in the article.
I saw Liddy's speech. She said to tell you 'hey'. ;^)
Also saw Jesse Helms. Got to shake his hand, which was cool.
Burr is endorsed by the NRA and the GRNC. Works for me.
Whoop-ity-do. When a politician promises 'more affordable' healthcare and continued support of No Child Left Behind as some inalienable right, as well as the national government getting involved in an issue which is clearly a state concern (clearly a 10th Amendment issue), it doesn't me squat to me who endorses him. Those are issues that I would have heard only a liberal espouse less than 20 years ago.
Up here in Massachusetts, I am hearing that there are long lines in areas populated with what Jesse once referred to as the "Block Vote". Do you know if that is the case? Also, how is the GOTV effort going in the Dixiecrat areas.
