Hillary Clinton stumps for Kerry in South Florida
By MIKE SCHNEIDER
Associated Press Writer

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton toured through South Florida Saturday, urging residents to vote early for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry at rallies for two groups in which she and her husband, former President Clinton, enjoy immense popularity - women and African Americans.

At a Women's Early Vote Unity Rally in West Palm Beach, she criticized efforts to reject voter registration applications because some people had forgotten to check a box indicating they are U.S. citizens.

She challenged President Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush to make sure the Nov. 2 election is fair and that every vote counts in Florida, the state that decided the 2000 presidential election by 537 votes.

"If we were living in another country and we had the president of the country and his brother controlling one of the biggest provinces or states, we would ... have some doubts about whether, given their track record, they really believe in democracy," Clinton told about 300 cheering supporters in a theater in downtown West Palm Beach.

In the 2000 election, large numbers of votes in black precincts in Duval County were discarded because of ballot problems and many Jews in Palm Beach County inadvertently voted for Pat Buchanan because of a poorly designed ballot.

Later Saturday, at a rally before a largely African American crowd of several hundred people outside a community center in Fort Lauderdale, the senator challenged President Bush's contention that Kerry would be ineffective in fighting terrorism. She later addressed a rally in Miami.

At both rallies, she noted that New York, the state she represents and the site of the World Trade Center attacks, is expected to cast its electoral votes for Kerry.

"We went through the horror, the tragedy, the loss ... Isn't it interesting that the people of New York, the ones who were attacked, have already figured out they can trust John Kerry?" Clinton said.

The biggest applause at both events came when she told the crowds that her husband, President Clinton, was recovering fast enough from heart surgery to campaign for Kerry in Florida early next week.

"The doctor said, 'Don't overdo it!'" Clinton said. "'But we'll let you go.'"

She must be talking about Fidel Castro, huh? Oh, wait, nevermind. She's talking about two elected officials.

Apparently Hilary doesn't believe in having democratically-elected officials come from the same family. That's good news.

My gosh, these people are just beyond scary.

What a WITCH! I love the attention she gets for a whopping crowd of "300" She had 300 in San Francisco, too... beginning to think she's inflating her numbers to "300" since it seems to be the common denominator... doesn't bode well for her in 2008 -- how many will Rudy draw or Arnold draw (in Ohio next week).

The media would say that it doesn't matter if Bush draws 30,000 and Hillary only 300. Why? Because Republicans probably prevented Hillary supporters from making it to her rally with threats and intimidation. And many would believe such nonsense. Still, it is hard to figure out why Janet Reno alone could not have brought 300 people to the rally.
