To win the primary, the newcomer overcame the election eve arrest of his brother, Cameron, and campaign field director Thomas J. Vallely, both then 22, in the basement of a Lowell building that housed the headquarters of Kerry and another Democratic contender, state Representative Anthony R. DiFruscia of Lawrence. It was almost 2 a.m. - 30 hours before the polls opened - when the two were arrested on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. That day's Sun blared a memorable, double-deck headline: "Kerry brother arrested in Lowell `Watergate."' DiFruscia, getting some extra ink in the campaign's waning hours, had drawn the parallel to the break-in at Democratic headquarters in Washington three months earlier. The Kerry camp declared it a setup, saying that the two responded to an anonymous phone call, minutes earlier, threatening to cut the campaign's 36 phone lines on the day before its get-out-the-vote effort. Lowell Police arrested the pair in an area near the trunk line for all of the building's phones. To this day Kerry becomes animated talking about the episode, convinced it was part of a conspiracy against his insurgency. He said he does not know who was involved. He dismissed as ridiculous the charge that DiFruscia was a target. "He didn't figure in the race," said Kerry. But some of Kerry's claims in the Lowell break-in are wildly at odds with the facts. "That headline was held open. That page was held open, according to [Sun] typesetters, at 1 o'clock in the morning," Kerry said. "That doesn't happen at a newspaper, you know that. And that headline was out there on the streets the next morning, first thing."

In related news, yet another Bush/Cheney campaign office was burglarized, something which is becoming a regular occurance.
Same old same old.
SCUM...You would think any clear thinking democrat would distance themselves from this bunch...oh yeah, I guess the twenty or so there are already have!
And thus the truism that John Kerry will do and/or say anything to win an election.
Pretty well known here in Boston. Howie Carr brings it up regularly. What's this, in the Glub? If so, that means it'll be back on the radio here in the morning. Granted, Mass. isn't a swing state, but local radio carries well into New Hampshire and Maine, and they are.

GOOD...I'm glad to hear it is talked about there! I guess I either missed it or it just never made it to Wyoming.
"But some of Kerry's claims in the Lowell break-in are wildly at odds with the facts."
just like his military records.
John F. Kerry speaks: Quiet Everyone. People make fun of Bush, but get a load of these sKerryisms:
"The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country." - John F. Kerry.
(I bet you didn't know that!)
"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." - John F. Kerry. (Really?)
"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." - John F. Kerry.
(Thought that was three words.)
"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." - John F. Kerry.
(Now how did he do that?)
"The future will be better tomorrow." - John F. Kerry.
(Does he know the future IS tomorrow?)
"We're going to have the best educated American people in the world." - John F. Kerry.
(DUH!)
"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." - John F. Kerry.
(Way to go!--The truth is out there.)
"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe." - John F. Kerry.
(Geography wasn't his strong suit.)
"Public speaking is very easy." - John F. Kerry.
(He oughta know.)
"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." - John F. Kerry.
(Amazing grasp of the obvious.)
"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." - John F. Kerry.
(Reality check!)
"For NASA, space is still a high priority." - John F. Kerry.
(Really, does he know what NASA stands for?)
"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children." - John F. Kerry.
(Is there another profession?)
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." - John F. Kerry.
(Science wasn't his strong suit either.)
"It's time for the human race to enter the solar system." - John F. Kerry.
(He goes first, :-) then the rest of his bandwagon idiots can follow...)
I believe it also made the New York Times.

Republican US Senate candidate Jim Rappaport yesterday challenged Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic incumbent, to prove that he attended 12 of 18 Senate Banking Committee hearings last winter on the savings and loan bailout.
Rappaport, who claims Kerry attended only six of the hearings, challenged Kerry to produce a notarized document signed by Sen. Donald Riegle Jr., chairman of the commitee, or by Steve Harris, the committee's majority staff director, to prove his attendance claim. If Click for complete article (301 words)
